I was gonna say “Raise Your Grades to an A!!” but that sounds too catchy and probably mobs of mad students will chase you guys if you don’t give them the A :P

Im actually starting an organization at UCSD, so i kinda went through the same thing, coming up with great name.
But my purposes weren’t for tutoring, and personally TUTORING should have enough power to attract people. Now as far as reputation is concerned, one question comes to mind- how can you establish a reputation if you really don’t have the popularity? Reputation comes from many people not just a handful.

Here is what I would do:
- *** Get together ***with all the tutors, and talk about what aspects they can cover [i know you said all subjects, and SAT, etc, but make a list, so you are clear.]
- *** Target Classes ***. You want to make your club ring in the minds of the students, so you need to go to each class and 1. make an announcement yourself, and 2. ask the teacher if they could reserve a corner on the board that says your club name and when you are available. 3. Make an “Announcement” Page and print it out and put it in rooms.

Now that we have what you are doing, and marketing started up, you need to prove yourself. How good are you seriously [KEY WORD:Seriously]? Tutoring is one thing, but students don’t like to ask others for help, especially tutors. The list goes as follows:
If a student has a hard time they will ask [generally]
- Parents
- Friends / Neighbors
- Teacher
- Strangers [other students in the class]
- Tutors.

Tutors are their last resort generally, thus you need to make sure you guys are in the top 3.
An easy way to do this is to talk to parents, and let them know about tutoring club.
The best way is to send an email [if your school sends out email announcements and all]
If parents know about tutoring club, they will send their students.

next up on the list is to make sure you have positive results. Tutors need to be kind, gentle and understanding. My personal suggestion is you have to maintain strictness [assuming you are the leader of the club] If one person steps out of line, he/she is out. The reason is as follow: Assume you are a student, and I am a tutor. You have “dumb” questions because you aren’t well in that area, and I am being a [BEEP] and you know acting “smarter” and just trying to convey my superiority [in some ridiculous way]… chances are that you won’t coem back to the club, regardless of the chances of a new tutor. One experience cuts it all, and if that person starts telling people, you are out of luck. you need to maintain strictness at all costs

Finally, you need to make sure that tutoring is for everyone. This is easily accomplished in the “description” of the Club where you would state that tutoring is for everyone. And you list things you do, making sure you list what services you offer for a student getting “A’s” etc. [im not saying to separate it out, like A- this that this, B- this that this… rather, make sure you include services that will help “A/B” student [like you said- Essay Readings]

Of course you need to prove your legitness first. this is done through reputation. Remember, you want this club to succeed. Thus, do not be hasty-- if you are calm you will get there, you just need to wait a while.
Also tutoring has pressure to it. Make sure you and each tutor is available and have backups in case. Teachers are a great route to publicity. They often announce that there is tutoring in so and so area on this date at this time. So make sure you request KINDLY to teachers if they are willing to help out. Chances are they will
be sure to thank them once again and a nice thing to do would be to send them a handwritten card thanking them [and everyone who helped] for their help, once the club gets up and running.

Sry for the length, lol. i know you just asked for a name, but I just get caught up in these things. lolz i do that a lot on CC :P

EDIT: just read the part about ESL and all, lol oops My suggestions are pretty much the same. Marketing is key, and be sure that kindness and gentleness are the first impression you get, and reliability is the second.
