I plan on majoring in chemical engineering.
My mom says I need to narrow it down to 4-3-3 or 10 schools.

I do plan on applying for financial aid, so if you know that any of these schools give terrible aid, let me know. I also plan on being in a rural or urban environment with plenty of inters/study abroad opportunities. If you know that some of these schools don't meet my requirements let me know as I have not visited most of them yet.

I would eleminate some safties. They are called safties for a reason. I would eliminate SUNY Buffalo, simply because I don't like it. But Syracue is good, I take classes through them at my high school, for Syracuse credit. St. Lawernce University in NY has good financial aid and offers plenty of study abroad opportunities and meets all of your requirements you should check them out.

Have you visited any of these schools? The environment and social scene at Columbia, for example, is going to be rather different from the one at Cornell or UMass.

Megan2010, since I am a NYer, SUNY Buffalo is one i have to apply to inorder to keep my parents happy, unless of course, you'd recommend another suny that had chemical engineering. I don't believe St. Lawernce University has a great engineering program or if they offer chemical engineering specifically at all.

teenage, I have not visited Cornell or UMass, but from what I understand they are pretty rural. I'd be just as happy there as I would be in a city.

i think more info is needed to determine where you would fit in best..

ducky - many of your reaches look like big reaches, but your overall list is strong. Good luck trying to narrow it down.

i hate to confuse the issue, but if you are interested in engineering, have you looked at Rensselaer Polytechnic - RPI (Troy, NY - great financial aid and strong programs)? Also try Worcester Polytechnic (WPI) and University of New Hampshire.

Many students from the school where I teach are attracted by the reputation of the strong engineering programs at those schools.
