I applied early to Yale and I hear back Friday. If I get in, I get to go to my top choice of school and I don’t have to finish the rest of my applications (two great things). Tell me any bad things about being a Yale student or good things about being a student at any of the other ivy or patriot league schools, so I won’t be too upset if/when I’m rejected.
If you get outright rejected, then the good news is that you have other great choice of schools for the RD round. If you get deferred, then the good news is that Yale’s still in the running along with other great choice of schools in the RD round. Why settle for one dream school when you can have several dream schools? Besides, according to Harvard, Princeton and Stanford, Yale truly sucks big time.
@TiggerDad - Wow. How rude, and you are an adult, right? I don’t think people on the Yale thread say that about Princeton (although they might think it).
@egg1one - If you are looking for reasons to hate Yale before you’ve even received your admissions decision, then I’m guessing you will be happier somewhere else. Yale and the other selective schools you are considering really want students who will “fit,” thrive and make a positive contribution to their campus community. So don’t follow @TiggerDad’s example. Be positive. Best of luck.
Wow @worriestoomuch I think you owe @TiggerDad an apology. Go reread his post including the emoji. Us Pooh characters need to stick together.
Nope, not rude at all. You just happened to totally misconstrue my post. The OP was obviously nervous about the Yale chance and specifically stated, “Tell me any bad things about being a Yale student…” so he/she won’t feel terrible in case of the rejection. My response was to relieve the OP of the tension because that’s what we’ve all gone through before. I’m surprised that you missed my “wink” emoji at the end of the last sentence, which should have given you the clue that it was a tongue-in-cheek. You DO worry too much.
@Eeyore123 - I am sorry for being snarky. Yalies do think very highly of Princeton and I realize @TiggerDad was just being “cute.”
What I meant to say is that being “cute” - or “snarky” - isn’t helpful to a student who is obviously anxious about the impending Yale SCEA decision on Friday. There’s so much free-floating anxiety being amplified in the CC echo chamber this month, so it is important to remind applicants that they should be proud of everything they have accomplished - both in and out of school - to this point in time, and that they should trust that they will end up at colleges where they will be challenged and find paths to future ssuccesses.
i guess one thing that I would say @egg1one it’s totally fine to feel totally terrible. If you don’t get in, you should feel terrible…months and years of work went into sending in that application…it’d be crazy if you didn’t feel bad about it.
but after a couple of days of that, you pick yourself up and you push ahead…and you find more happiness and satisfaction ahead!
"I realize @TiggerDad was just being “cute.”
Now, you’re being “rude.” :))
Tina Fey was rejected by Princeton.
Tom Hanks was rejected by MIT
Barack Obama was rejected by Swarthmore
Meredith Vieira was rejected by Harvard
John Kerry was rejected by Harvard, but accepted at Yale
Katie Couric was rejected by Smith (despite legacy status)
Jack Ma (founder of Alibaba) applied to Harvard 10 times & was rejected every time.
Being rejected stung for each and every one of them- but it didn’t define, much less limit, their life.
And thus some truly excellent advice got overlooked:
“Why settle for one dream school when you can have several dream schools?”
These types of “Help me hate (insert dream school)” are trendy on social media. Obviously the posters don’t hate their number one choice and would be very honored to attend.
It’s akin to “Michael” wanting to hear from his best friend that Michael’s ex was an idiot and there are better looking girls out there that would be happy to date him.
Tiggerdad told “Michael” what he wanted to hear.

LOL!! :))
“Tina Fey was rejected by Princeton.”
Okay, that explains why she decided to join the Princeton’s “Admission” team…
You should not let admissions officer who never met you and who probably spent 10 - 15 minutes with your application determine your self-worth.
So if you get into Yale that is great – if not there are so many amazing colleges and universities out there where you can have a fantastic four year expereince, get a wonderful education, and that can get you wherever you want to go in life.
FWIW my D went to a Patriot League college – she had an absolutely amazing four year expereince that she would not trade for anything as is now about to finish a grad program at an Ivy league school.
The worst thing about dream schools isn’t getting rejected. It’s getting accepted. Without adequately shopping around, students will just go, then most often find out it’s a lousy fit and they end up miserable.
Forget about the “prestige” of a school. The most important thing about a school is whether you’ll thrive there. There is little about Yale that suggests that it’s any better than any other of 100 schools out there as a place in which a student will thrive.
SO, you likely would have done well at Yale, but you’ll likely do just as well wherever you end up. I’m pretty sure that if you are competitive for Yale, you’ll be accepted in any number of schools in which you’ll be just as happy, or even happier.
Overall, going to an Ivy-League school is no longer a requirement for doing extremely well in life, nor is doing well assured by a degree from an Ivy.

@egg1one did you get in or not?
