Help me out...environmental type stuff

okay here's the deal guys. Im a graduating senior. Im taking pre-calc this summer since i didnt take anything past advanced math in high school. As far as college credit i have 6 credit hours since i took english dual enrollment this year.

As of right now, i plan on majoring in environmental engineering. I want to work on projects with Louisiana's eroding coast. (i live like 15 minutes from the Gulf of Mexico, Louisiana) anyways, i think id also like to work in the oilfield, like with environmental safety, but also maybe making different chemicals and products for oilfield use. I'm really stuck on waht i should go into. I am doing ROTC and joining the National Guard once i get my degree, so im planning on doing college in 5 years regardless.

Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated!

anyone? (10char)

You don’t have to make that decision now. You know the general area you want - engineering - and that’s good for right now. Most likely, a lot of the classes you’d be taking (for environmental engr or petroleum engr) will be the same the first year or so.

One additional suggestion - if it’s not required - take the intro geology class.

What school will you be attending?

If you want to do the part with chemicals for the oilfield, chemical engineering, or even straight chemistry would be ideal. A ton of the guys working behind the scenes at the Halliburton/Schlumberger/Exxon/etc technology centers have those types of degrees.

As for the environmental stuff, coastal erosion would be mostly civil engineering. The rest of the environmental stuff can be approached a number of ways.

im planning on taking a geol class in the spring grcxx3…see if i like that kind of stuff…i’m going to UL-Lafayette for a year then transfering to LSU! im starting to think EVEG is too specific as opposed to Chem or Civ

how common is it to get a job in the oilfield with a CE degree?
