I just found out in the past week that I got into both NYU and USC for film production, along with Emerson (which was my safety) as well. So what do you guys think? I can't make up my mind as to which I would prefer, and I'm just trying to get opinions - on the two school's social lives, on the two different coasts, on the two film programs - tell me what you think! Thank you!

It really depends what you want to get out of the college experience. NYU is known for where the "abstact" filmmakers go who have a hard time conveying the poingnancy or relevance of their work. Though this is not true. USC is known for where all the rich kids go to get a head start into Hollywood. This isn't completely true either. Do you want to learn on the East or the West? Would you rather experience four seasons throughout the year or just two?

The heated rivalry is between USC and UCLA, not so much NYU, although NYU is a great school. What draws so many people to USC and even UCLA is the fact they get recruited so easily. In the same way business majors often prefer to go to Stern because it's in NY rather than Haas because it's in california, filmmakers enjoy being in the presence of the film industry and learning all there is to know at a hands on experience, versus being three thousand miles away.

But that's a pretty shallow explanation. Read up on both schools. See which one you like more.

USC is the absolute top choice for future directors. But when it comes to production, I have no idea if it is the same concept...

But where is Hollywood? Think about it.

USC, hands down. NYU is more kind of artsy with film, and USC has a much better reputation in the industry.

my nephew is at USC film school and loves it. He has an internship this semester at Paramount and is in 7th heaven!
