help me out please

Okay, here's my situation.

I don't really know how to figure out tax forms, but as near as I can figure, my dad technically owns part of a business where he works as a manager. Also, apparently he is self-employed. In a more practical sense, the business belongs to my uncle, and my dad is just the manager of the store.

On all my college applications, I wrote in that my dad was self-employed. I can't remember if FAFSA asked this question, but if it did, I would've said the same thing.

However, on the CSS Profile application, it asked all people who own businesses to fill out the Business/Farm supplement, which was really confusing to us because, since we only part of the business on a technicality, we don't really know how to fill it out.

So, to avoid having to deal with all this, I just wrote that my dad was an employee of the business where he works.

Now, here's what I'm wondering: Will this cause a problem? Because on my college applications, I wrote that my dad was self-employed, but on the CSS Profile, I clearly said he wasn't.

What would be the best solution?

Thank you.

PLEASE somebody respond

I am not a tax person.....

but, on your tax statements, does your dad receive a W2 (meaning he is an employee)? Or does he receive a 1099 (contract)? Or does he fill out Schedule C (Form 1040)?

I imagine that the info you put on your tax statements would have to match up with what you put on the Profile.

If your dad is, indeed, self-employed, then I think you need to fill out the Business Supplement.

I hope someone can help you more than this.......

Good luck
