I’m a junior at a very competitive high school in CT. My stats are:
-3.5 UWGPA (I raised it 0.2 in just my junior year)
-1990 SAT (670 CR, 660 M, 660 W)
-I’ve done 100+ hours of community service and have done research at my school for which I placed 3rd in a regional science fair.
-By the end of high school I will have taken:
. AP Econ (Micro+Macro)
. AP Physics 1
. AP Government
. Spanish Honors (4 years)
. Calculus Honors
I want to do something business related, though I’m not sure what yet. My recs and essays will likely be decent but not great.
Right now my list is
-Bentley
-Connecticut College
-UConn
-Franklin and Marshall
-UMD College Park
-Northeastern
-Union
Financial aid is something I’ll need but for me private schools generally end up cheaper than public schools, so for right now don’t worry too much about initial price. I want to stay within driving distance and prefer bigger schools, but the school size is flexible. Any help is much appreciated! Thanks
Bucknell
Reach: fordham university, boston university (if you get accepted, it will probably be into the cgs), suny Binghamton, penn state
Match: hofstra university
Safety: baruch college, temple university, pace university
Be careful of expecting colleges to meet your full need. There are about 60 or so who will for all students. There are other generous ones who may come close. But more will practice ‘preferential packaging’ and give larger/better to the top of the pool of admits. The others may bee ‘gapped’ with aid not meeting need. And you also have to understand if your parents can pay what the schools calculate as your ‘need’. That is going to be different from your FAFSA EFC.
You should narrow it down to Bentley, Connecticut College, Maryland, Northeastern, and like Irreplaceable said Fordham. If you get into Northeastern, you’re getting into BU too and no way would I choose BU over NEU for business. Yes I’m biased, but I wouldn’t choose another school over Bentley for a business education. NEU would be my second choice though, and being in the city is convenient.
Thanks for the responses guys. Really helpful
Holy Cross would be a good option.
Also I know I want to stay in driving distance (and its still a priority for me) but what do you think about Ohio State? From the NPCs and some scholarships I would qualify for it could become very cheap. A friend of mine from NY said his cost came out cheaper than an NY state school. Worth applying?
I doubt you’d get much of a scholarship for those scores and grades. The off-the-shelf cost for tOSU is $38K. http://undergrad.osu.edu/money-matters/tuition-and-fees.html
@ErinsDad Since I’d qualify for the National Buckeye Scholarship (my school doesn’t rank but my gc said I’m likely in the top 40%) that already knocks the cost down to $26K per year. Not NY state school price, but since my target net price is $34K per year (something I should’ve mentioned earlier) its very reasonable and cheaper than any other school except UConn
I would add or consider St. Lawrence, Lafayette, Dickinson and Gettysburg.
Bryant as a match, Dickinson (excellent International Management major) as a low reach, Albany as a safety. UVermont perhaps if you like skiing.
