Help me out?

Yes I'm aware that everything is past due, but ill be referring to ED 1 next year, so my senior grades won't be as influential. I am very nervous, and would appreciate to know if I have a chance, thanks:/

Freshman GPA: 3.0 :(
Sophomore GPA: 3.66
Junior GPA: 3.96
^ all unweighted which equates to 3.54
APs: Lit, APUSH, Psychology, AP Macro
Senior course load for next year: AP Micro, AP Comp sci, AP German, AP lit again, AP Euro. the rest academic ( took academic pre calc junior year so can't take ap calc at my school, i dunno if that rule is universal)

SAT: 710 math, 660 reading 640 writing= 2010

Good recommendations, will do my best to make a kick ass essay tailored for emory because it's my 1st choice

EC:
4 years tennis, 3 years varsity. Will (hopefully) be captain senior year
Cross country 3 years
FBLA 3 years
German Honor's Society 2 years( can only start junior)
Flying Spaghetti Monster Club ( group of friends that mess around and talk about religion/ politics, may consider not even putting that on unless i can net an interview to explain lol)
Full time lifeguard over summer, part time during school
Took some comp sci classes at Stevens technical institute in Hoboken NJ. I had fun but I'm not good at it lol.
Key Club
100+ hours community service at food bank

I will be majoring in finance. Do I have a chance? It is my priority and i know my gpa is very low. stupid freshman year lol. thanks in advance, guys

I will maintain my junior grades senior year.

*My school does not rank, but because my graduating class is about 800 i would say i am in the top 25%(conservative estimate). I go to a semi-competitive school in NJ. About 5-10 kids go to Ivys each year.

GPA is low (you know that), but upward trend will help. Test scores are not out of range, but won’t be the most helpful. ECs are average for Emory.

Write good essays and do your research. (For instance, majoring in finance requires that you are admitted to the business school after two years at the College of Arts and Sciences or Oxford–don’t put something in your essay that suggests you don’t know this.)

Also, I believe that one of your other threads said that your parents will only let you apply to 5 schools. Take a look at Oxford and consider whether it could possibly be a good fit for you; you can apply there without submitting an additional application or other admissions material (I think there’s just an extra essay and a box to click). You can apply ED to the College of Arts and Sciences and RD to Oxford. Admissions decisions are reviewed entirely independently (by different offices).

Even though you’re applying ED, make sure you demonstrate interest and know what you’re talking about. Visit if you can. Write essays that demonstrate that ED is a well-considered choice. Be able to fill in some of those boxes on the supplement where it asks for names of contacts you’ve had with students, alumni, and others (Hint: I regularly provide my name to applicants who I’ve had meaningful PM conversations with here).

If only I could afford a plane ticket and hotel to go to Atlanta lol. Will there be admission officers/ alumni in the nj area?
Also thanks for replying

Emory heavily targets the tri-state area, so yes there will be.

If money is an issue and you’re not sure if Emory will meet your need, you probably shouldn’t apply early decision.

I think I have absolutely no chance getting into Emory RD…

Remember, with ED you can’t compare financial aid packages except to those of your state school. An Emory degree isn’t worth $70,000 in debt.

Do they often fulfill all student financial needs for ED?

these are just a few additions to what aigiqinf posted:

 • since you can’t visit, start emailing an admissions advisor a few months before you apply. Establishing contact is a very good way of letting them know you’re interested. Also, try to see if any of their advisors are coming to the city you live in.
 • try to get some leadership positions
 • I wouldn’t include that spaghetti monster club

I hope this was helpful.

You can still get as much and more aid ED… Emory promises to meet full need, but like other top schools, what they consider meeting need may differ from what we think.
You know what you do well and what you don’t. You might not get in, but you might. If it’s you dream school -do it! You’ve got some good things going for you (show improvement, varsity sports, community service) and you’re not out of range. Emory loves seeing you’re interested, so add a line or two in your essays showing you did your research. Also, if it’s not to late, could you take some more math? It’s not a requirement, but as an Emory student I don’t know anyone here who didn’t take AP calc. Most kids have done BC or multi.
