I am an international student,I wanted to do computer engineering but I couldn't score well in SAT so I applied for Computer Engineering Technology in New York City College of Technology and got admission. But lot of people told me that this course is not that good for you,you should have gone for computer engineering. So,I am really confused now I have also got my
I-20 and will be going to USA next month.Should change my college or not?

Be aware that computer engineering technology is not at all the same as being a computer engineer.

So,Should I transfer to some other college for computer engineering?

Tranfering would be the best solution. You could manage a pretty good GPA, then tranfer into another school for Computer Engineering.

I think you can transfer to another and better college for CE if you have one or you can switch your major within the City College if there is a CE offered or you can alway take CE required courses while studying the current major and get CE MS later on in a different university. I think your concern had something to do with the fact that City College may not be good enough for you.

Can I transfer after first semester? And also my course is for Computer Engineering Technology not Computer Engineering. So,if I transfer to another college for Computer Engineering will I have to start from the first semester?

Not really, most first semester courses are pretty generic.
English, math, and the like. It’s nothing you can’t make up in a summer.

Are you on an international scholarship? Does it restrict the amount of credits you can take, or if you take some that do not count towards your major? If so, it would be best to start out where you want to finish. I had a friend that had a horrible time trying to obtain a new I-20 when transferring.

The thing is that City Tech doesn’t have Computer Engineering they only have Computer Engineering Technology. This means if I want to change my major to Computere Engineering then I will also have to change my college. So,can I do it anytime or is there any specific time to do that?
