Help me pick a couple more to apply to?

Male
ACT: 26 (This kills me)
Class Rank: 38 out of 400
State: NC
GPA: 4.2
My High School honestly does not care whether or not our students go to college or just go to work at McDonalds. I live in a "hick" part of the state where only about the top 50 people even care about our education. I think because I have such a bad view on my County i used to look down on my whole state but when i visited Chapel Hill, I fell in Love it is the only College in state i am really interested in. Raleigh was a great city but NC state just didn't click with me. I am mainly looking for large schools north of North carolina but only as far west an Chicago. I pefer the Mid Atlantic and Northeast.

So Far i have started my apps for

UNC- #1
Butler University
George Washington University

Thanks for your help!

Goucher comes to mind. Others will suggest many more.

We need more info. Area of interest/major? Do you have financial restrictions - do you qualify for financial aid, and if not will you be looking for colleges that give merit scholarships?

Off the top of my head, James Madison (mid-sized), UConn.

Are you planning to retake the ACT, or take SAT? You really do still have time to prep well and retake. Oct. 1 is SAT sitting. Maybe you’d do better on SAT?

Look at George Mason U. It’s test optional for one, but think you’d be admitted even if you did submit scores. It’s up and coming and lost it’s commuter school image in recent years. If you are planning on majoring in something that isn’t offered at schools in your own state, then sometimes you can get instate rates through Academic Common Market agreement (daughter is looking at this for Japanese major OOS).

Also look at James Madison, U. of Delaware, Syracuse, Temple U. ¶, U. of Maryland Baltimore, VA Tech. I would really focus on your state schools though. I don’t think it’s worth the cost to go OOS full tution rates when you have so many great instate options, but good luck. You will still have some excellent schools to choose from in the end. Your GPA is the most important factor and you’ll do well in admissions. Retake if you can though.

Look at American University in D.C.

GW? So expensive. Can you afford it if you are accepted?
