Help me pick another safety!

Here is my list (no specific order, copy/paste job):

Tufts University
McGill University
Tulane University
University of British Columbia (UBC)
Northeastern University
Boston University
Carnegie Mellon University
WPI
Case Western Reserve University
University of Rochester
Bradley University (so far my only real backup)
Carleton College
Grinnell College

Stats:
AA, SAT 720M 650R 650W and horrid SAT II's (retake in Jan) GPA around 3.4 I am guessing with rather upward curve (I have an A in every class but english so far senior year). Moderate - hard courseload at a tiny parochial school (I have taken advantage of the schools resources though). Looking for engineering schools or perhaps an LAC with good science that offers 3/2. My list is reach heavy and I feel that I need more matches/safeties. (at least one more). Too late to apply to Madison? Someone told me I stood an even chance there...any suggestions?

Not too late and I think you have a good shot at UW. Very good eng school at UW and it's not too massive. If AA=African American you will get money. They have a special program for AA in engineering.

Holy Cross very good LAC might offer 3/2 with nearby WPI. HC is strong in the sciences and has plans to build new science facility.

I don't think you need any more safeties. You will not get rejected everywhere. However, Tulane is doing away with their engineering program this year due to limited resources if you didn't know. You might want to replace Tulane with UW-Madison, but I don't know their deadline.

My best advice would be Carnegie Mellon. Im not saying chose it 100% because no onw can be the judge except you. But carnegie mellon has a GREAT engineering program. So many of my friends and my brothers and sisters friedn have went there. All of them have been so happy with their choice. Not toooo big of class sizes and excellent teachers. Only the best graduate from there, and im sure your one of them. Good luck with your choicemaking, and i hope you have a great time where ever you choose.

can carnegie mellon really be considered a safety?

definetley not... CMU should be a reach.

Tufts on your list is anything but a safety - rather it's a reach. Northeastern is a pretty safe bet with your statistics.

It would appear that I might not have made it clear that that is my entire list. Tufts is sure as heck not a safety for me (it is arguably my biggest reach)! Carnegie Mellon (please note it is already on my list) is also a big reach - however one of the students from there called me over the summer and convinced me to apply. I am familiar with the area (I have lived in both PA and MD and have toured the school) and I figured why not try. Thank you for your replies so far!
