Hello, I am currently a Senior in High School and college preparations have been happening for a long time now, but I cannot decide a college since I do not know many.

I am looking for a college that accepts people with an average 2.8 GPA. I am interested in a warm (weather), friendly (dont want to get shot), clean college that provides housing.

I am interested in something to do with either Environmental Science, International Business, Psychology, or other business realted major.

I am also interested in internships and job placement.

I live in Florida but am not to keen to go to college here for reasons I dont feel like discussing. lol, I dont feel like incredibly cold places like Vermont and New Hampshire as I lived there before as well.

I have looked at Hawaii Pacific and I really like the look of the scenery etc. I am hoping for an atmosphere like that.

For my academic information...

I have not taken the ACT or SAT yet but am scheduled for both this December.

I have a cumulative GPA of 2.8. May go higher or lower considering my grades this year.

For foreign languages I have taken Latin and Chinese (mandarin)

Extra curriculars - Model UN, Varsity sports, Learning lab

North Carolina is still pretty cold. I am hoping more or less to go out south or south east. I dont know about Arizona State though, I looked in they only said between 2.5 and2.9 considered.

^
If by that you mean you stand a good chance of acceptance than I would say no, but you definately have a chance to get admitted but odds are against you largely. If you like the school a lot simply take a chance at it.

I dont particulary like Arizona. Also, I am looking for a school that I would have a good chance of getting into. A school that is respectable with maybe not a lot of partys so I could concentrate. Courteous and nice staff and students would be a plus. Smaller class sizes are good also.

^
Well due to your GPA it may be a lot more difficult to find a university that meet your needs; at least for those you have a sure chance of getting into. Are your test scores high, or any major hook?

I think I have a few schools to suggest, just a min.

Well due to your preference in location and me only being familier with well recognized schools its hard to suggest. Probably should look at University of California- Riverside, I’m not sure of the students, staff etc… by how serious they are. Also if you need financial aid, your not likely to get much as UC-R. I think if you open yourself more to other locations you will have more options for what your looking for, specifically most will likely be private schools.

Northeastern is in Boston, not warm weather as you would like.

Well, feel free to suggest colder weather locations then. I can stand the cold weather, I just do not prefer it. I am pretty sure I will score well on my SAT and ACT, my GPA suffered because of Calculus, AP Chemistry, and I missed a lot in accounting.

Northwestern State U in Louisiana might be a possibility. Also, would you be willing to consider some of the less competitive Florida state schools?

Consider posting this on the Parents Forum, which has a lot of very helpful folks–but first talk $ with your own parents. If you think of North Carolina as cold, th emany good options in the Northeast, Midwest and MidAtlantic seem out of the question

If you go out-of-state, then the costs will go up significantly. OOS publics don’t provide FA to cover those OOS extra costs. (UVa is an exception, but your stats aren’t high enough).

So, can your parents pay about $30-35k+ per year for you to go to school OOS?

Along with the money issue…

Since you haven’t taken an SAT or ACT yet, we don’t really know where you’d get in. If your scores are quite low, it will be a problem. However, if your scores are good, your GPA may not hinder you.

Did you take the PSAT? If so, what was your score?
