Help me pick some match and safety schools? :] i'll be your best friend

bump bump bump

Did I miss where you tell everyone what you’re interested in studying? And what your family can afford? Also, what is the Early Assurance Program?

I’m interested in pre-med and international relations. ideally a place like Johns Hopkins where the research opportunities are amazing even for undergrads.
And I’m pretty sure I’ll get a good financial aid package because of my family’s situation, so I’m not super concerned about that right now, I’ll compare wherever I’m accepted as long as the school is need blind.
So i’m absolutely smitten with JHU and Georgetown, like head over heels. it hurts. hahah

If GU is a reach for her how about this - http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-admissions/1219352-chances-georgetown-sfs.html

Oh also I’m working 23+ hours a week, if that makes a difference to them?
would it?

everything else looks relatively good, but you seem to not really have any ECs besides nhs

You need to raise your ACT since you don’t have any real “hooks.”

Johns Hopkins- reach
Boston College- probably target, but I’m not sure
Georgetown- low reach
Duke- reach
Vandy- not sure
Wake Forest- not sure
Dartmouth- high reach
Tufts- reach

Oh I have a good amount of ECs I just didnt list them, and my school literally has nhs and only 2 other ec’s that they offer so all my Ec’s are independent or self initiated. Is that good?

You have a great GPA. But you may need to raise the ACT score to increase your chances, since NHS (no offense) is a generic extracurricular activity.
But since you have a good amount of unlisted EC’s, I would say you have a pretty good chance with all the schools. Dartmouth is undoubtedly the most competitive on your list. Write a good essay!

Yes I am retaking the ACT on October 22!

bump
bump
bump

crickets

What does that mean? Do you know how much your family can afford for school?

Most of the schools you list are reaches for everyone, so you will need to select some less selective schools to apply to also. What state do you live in? What is your instate flagship?

If you are looking for need based aid, you need to look for schools that meet full need. U. Richmond may be a match for you, and they are need blind and meet full need. You can find a list here
[Need-blind admission - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](Need-blind admission - Wikipedia)

(Based on the calculators on the schools website)
I’m interested in schools that are need blind and/or meet 100% demonstrated need.
I’m from MA
I’m not sure what instate flagship means??

thoughts on Georgetown and Johns Hopkins (again?) anyone?

oh and I was just made Editor in Chief of my schools newspaper which my class (albeit mostly me) founded this year
if thats relevant?
also do you think 23+ hours a week for a job is good to put on my app? or neutral?

Thank you everyone!

Whichever is generally considered the best University of Massachusetts school. (In some states, there may be more than one such school.)

Are you open to West Coast schools? You might have a shot at Chapman University. Sounds like you may qualify for their need-blind merit scholarship. I think working part-time for 23 hours per week is as good as having other EC’s.

I’d prefer East Coast, from Maine to about South Carolina, including KY and TN
I don’t want to be spending a fortune on airfare, and I’d like to be able to drive home, even if it’s like a whole day of driving.

Thoughts on William and Mary?

One option you should keep open is UMass for the in-state cost. Another is to look at the RSP Tuition break for other New England schools.
