help me pick some matches/reaches?

Hi everyone! I'm looking for match and reach schools in the New England/Northeastern US. I plan on studying some sort of engineering or comsci.

A bit about me:

GPA: 4.7
SAT: 2280 (1570 CR+M)
Some ECs: Science Olympiad, FIRST, tennis team, saxophone

I've already applied early to MIT, WPI, Northeastern, and UMass (I live in MA), so right now I'm searching for more schools with strong science and engineering programs. If you need any more information just ask. Thanks!

I agree with you that you’ve plenty of safeties. You’re kinda in a place where your match schools are reach schools for anyone. MIT is certainly one reach school for anyone. You can probably come up with a list of northeastern schools strong in STEM that are also reaches for anyone: Harvard, Princeton, Dartmouth, so why not choose match schools where you have a chance at significant merit aid: URochester, Case Western, Syracuse, RPI, RIT, Bucknell, Lafayette, Boston University, Carnegie Mellon, Johns Hopkins, and Penn State as match schools. I’ve ordered the matches, generally, from most generous to least. There are advantages to being a bigger fish in a smaller pond.

I would say apply to some Ivies, you definitely have a shot with your scores. Maybe NYU, Purdue, UMichigan, Tufts, Duke (Pratt) (not really in northeast but still a great school). Hope this helps.

Mind helping me out?

I didn’t mean to suggest you shouldn’t apply to ivies, but which one is something you ought to determine by visiting several. Your ECs look good but the specifics will matter to the ivies. Cornell might be as close to a match as you’ll find among the ivies, but who can tell with an ivy or stanford or any of the top schools? You’ve gotta write that app. Good luck.

part of going to college should be leaving home and spreading your wings.(IMO)

thanks jkeil and aqua for your suggestions! ill have to do a bit more research on the schools you guys mentioned.

and zobroward: while I agree that going far is a good way to experience other parts of the country, I actually haven’t traveled outside the northeastern US before. I wouldn’t want to apply to a school without knowing the environment there! I’m sure that I don’t have to travel far to experience a vastly different culture from what I’m used to at home. thanks for the input though :)
