So, right now, I have Samuels for Eng. Comp, however, that leaves me with only a 10 min. break between 2 buildings that are more than 10 min. away from each other. It's possible for me to switch to Gerrard, but she's slightly harder, or other Eng. Comp professors if I switch Chem 20a from Gelbart to Scerri (who I sort of want to avoid because he sounds like an arrogant prick from the review.) What would you guys recommend?

scerri = awesome

i had professor scerri for two quarters. yeah, hes arrogant, but i think it makes the class fun. his demos are cool too

I've had Scerri for just one course. I thought he was pretty fun and interesting. Just don't get on his bad side or do something stupid like skipping all lectures and going to his office hours with the most basic questions that reflect your attendance.

Wow. I wish that I can have Scerri for every single chem class ever. lol. Breaks and random but cool demos during lecture. Exams based entirely on the reader. No assigned homework. (I think things may have changed last year though.) Great lecturer and can speak without an inhibiting accent. Don't know what else you'd want.

And well.. as for arrogance. I don't see that at all unless you count self-plugs on his research/book and his guitar playing abilities from time to time... which is more than worth it to waste away lecture time.

Seriously, it just seemed like a very decent paced class where you get a bunch of things done and yet the lectures don't appear to drag on forever with things crammed left and right.

It's also just awesome that he doesn't try to be politically correct or neutral at times. Recall that one video posted online somewhere... And his explicit ridicule of people in class for commenting/asking dumb questions repeatedly. It makes a professor more.. human if you will.

lol i never ever had scerri. but i remember him from the bible man altercation last year.

that was awesome

T.T
Now I have even less of an idea as to what to do because Scerri is sounding better. Has anyone had Gelbart before?

Haha, here's my vote for Scerri. His sarcasm and ego actually make the class interesting, in a way. As a teacher, he was decent. The TA you get can make the class much easier (I recommend Benson Ngo). Sometimes, he will be irritated, and he often points out people whom talk during his lectures; the most severe instance I've been in when this couple was talking in class, and he pointed them out.

"Will you stop fuc-ing around in my class? YOU'RE DISRUPTING MY CLASS!"

Oh, here's the infamous video: http://axiomsun.com/home/video/scerri_vs_preacher.html

Through microphone, in front of entire lecture:

"Sh... wait, what did you say? Repeat your question."
[Girl repeats question]
"Oh, I had thought you had asked an even dumber question."

That's Scerri for you!

perfect acceptable to skip all his lectures.

and he's very charming. though i wouldn't get with him.

Eh, there was this girl in my organization who had Scerri. She loved him.

"He's charming, handsome (with his dark skin), and has a beautiful accent. I used to go to his office hours whenever I could, and I sat in the front row so I could see him clearly."

I'm vaguely familiar with that idea... that random fixation or sudden amorous explosion involving an unconventionally *attractive/i. Look at Scerri's BruinWalk photo(s). He is not exactly Brad Pitt, Colin Farrell, Tom Cruise, or any other sort of agreed upon ideal of beauty or sexiness. He is an old man with a receding hairline... a slightly crooked nose... with the skeletal structure of a Mr. Burns-esque figure. His collar bones protrude exceedingly. His dress is casual and occasionally provocative with the slight twist or turn or nuance involved with his shirt collar... his "chest hair" showing itself to the first few rows of the lecture hall... are they in awe of his accent? His intellectual status? His handsome brow? Or is it that possibility of... scandal involved with his association?

I agree Moldau - Scerri does have a certain charm. His arrogance makes this all the more convincing, I think. His accent helps as well and in some ways reminds me of the Mr. Darcy character - rude, proud, intellectual, and in the end, unusually attractive.

As a side-note: during exams, when he would enter the room, there would be cat-calls towards him - from both males and females.
