Hey peeps,
I was wondering if you guys/girls could help me out. I am going to college to become an engineer. Im not sure what kind exactly so I am hoping for General Engineering.
Anyways could you list the top 4 UC's and top 4 CSU's that excel in engineering. Please and thank you.

Does your google not work?

what do you mean by “general engineering”? Do you mean the reputation of the engineering college, or do you mean you want to get a degree in “general engineering”?

No Mike. Its just im not sure which UC’s to apply to that have good engineering programs. Other then Berkeley because im pretty sure i do not have the grades.
I know I want to do engineering. Just not sure what kind ( mechanical, structural, computer etc. ).

in that case its easy; they’re all good. Sure Cal is tops, but the rigor at any UC is going to qualify you for any engineering job you want (if you are thinking Wall Street and being recruited for financial work then you should go to Cal). All the UC schools are ABET acredited, meaning that no matter which one you go to you’ll be taking just about the same courses; and being sister campuses in the UC system, they even will have the same course number. So as far as UCs go, pick the one you like.

For CSUs, the top ones I hear mentioned are Cal Poly SLO and Chico.

ABET accreditation does allow for some curricular variation, and the semester (Berkeley, Merced) versus quarter (others) system means different course organization in many cases. And the course numbers are not necessarily the same on each campus. ABET accreditation of degree programs does ensure that the programs meet some minimum standard of quality.

Among CSUs, Cal Poly SLO has the highest reputation for engineering; among the others, Cal Poly Pomona and San Jose State are probably the ones with the best reputations in engineering. You can also check ABET accreditation at [ABET -](http://www.abet.org) .

Ok guys and gals. Thank you very much. I will look into/ apply to these mentioned.

Note that not all of the campuses have all types of engineering, so you may want to make sure that each one has the types of engineering that you are most interested in.

Also, not all campuses have an “Engineering Undeclared” major for freshmen who are not sure which type of engineering that they want to go into. And such a major may be more competitive to get into as a freshmen than some of the more specific engineering majors that you can apply to. Changing to a different engineering major when already declared in a specific engineering major typically requires applying to do so and may have higher GPA requirements.

UC Balumnus:

I understand where you’re coming from. Yet I do not know what I want to do exactly after college. My favorite subject is History but I doubt there is any future in that.

I only chose Engineering because I feel many opportunities lie there. And I do ok in math.

Any suggestions. I really like working with geometric shapes if that helps any. 3-D design is kind of fun. Maybe architecture. I dont know! Lol

Keep in mind that should an underclassman change his/her mind about a specific engineering major at Cal Poly Pomona, it is quite difficult to swtich programs, though changing to a liberal arts degree is probably not a problem.
