I'm not sure if I'm going to add any of the above^^^ insignificant activities on my actual application. I'm also worried about my lack of significant extracirriculars due to my work hours. Is it possible that I can get scholarship money with my dad's decent salary and my own salary of at least 18,000 per year?

You have a great shot at any school. I would be very surprised if you didn’t get into almost every school you apply to.

As for the “insignificant” activities, definitely include the clarinet and languages stuff. As an admissions officer, I’d be extremely impressed by that list of languages, especially since I have never heard of the first three..

Call me crazy, but I’d say Vandy and Emory are safeties; your chances at HY are excellent (I think you’ll get into one of them), and you’re more likely not to get into WUStL (probably a waitlist–overqualified). You’re a match at Duke. (I say this for very, very few people.)

Write great essays + show a passion for something, and you’ll be fine.

Though I’m not a chances person. I’d say make sure you apply to actual SAFETIES. Yes, those schools might be considered ‘safeties’ for you by the above posters. But, be safe and apply somewhere uber-safe.

Absolutely.
You will very likely have WONDERFUL “acceptance letter” experiences and get into many of these colleges but you need one or two safety-safeties. Your state U flagship? one of the CTCL (all of which have high acceptance rates)? Find a rolling admission college that you like and apply early so you have a letter of acceptance early.

And remember that next year will be the most competitive year ever as far as having the highest number applying.

Best wishes!

p.s. How about the University of Delaware as a safety? You could major in their “Three Languages” program and have three MORE languages under your belt. (You are amazing!)

Yeah you have excellent chances at all of your schools. I would be shocked if you didn’t get into most of them. However I do agree that you need a more “reliable” safety just in case. Maybe somewhere like Michigan? You could probably hear from them really early if you apply right in the fall. Or maybe an EA school? UChicago? That way you would already be into a top school before waiting to hear back from all your RD schools

First, I think (no, I know) that you have excellent credentials; they are impeccable–worthy of praise. It seems as though you will be a big competition for many of us applying next year. On the flip side, I do believe that your accomplishments are “too perfect.” There is nothing wrong with that, however, there have been so many times when we hear of stories of students with perfect everything get rejected from the most elite schools; these schools are never a guarentee. Like the other posters stated, “apply for some obvious safeties.” (But like I said before, you have the credentials to take you anywhere you want to go!)

Haha, to be completely honest, I don’t even know why you have people chancing you, lol. Your stats are phenomenal. Your EC’s are great. You are pretty much the epitome of an applicant that those schools are looking for.

I think you have a great shot everywhere. Since you’re really good at writing, I’ll assume you have awesome essays.

Apply to scholarship programs (particularly at Vandy and WashU) since your parent’s income is high - cost might be a factor next spring as you decide. Plus, if you apply to WashU’s programs, I doubt they’ll waitlist you for “overqualification.”)

Also, since you asked, I would put some of the music stuff in your application. It adds dimension to your app. You’re not just a language/writing person. And, volunteer hours? Harvard can waitlist anyone who doesn’t show concern for the community and a genuine desire to help others and make a difference (seen it happen to a really really really brilliant kid with AWESOME accomplishments).

thanks for all the replys one again! I think I am going to add my languages on my real app, but I’m still iffy about music. I don’t want my app to seem disorganized with no clear focus point.
