Help me please

i am thinking about international business
and..i have few problems..well i live in PA
and i am an international student.
well here is the ranking of 2009 IB
1 University of South Carolina--Columbia Columbia, SC
2 New York University New York, NY
3 University of Pennsylvania Philadelphia, PA
4 University of Michigan--Ann Arbor Ann Arbor, MI
5 University of Southern California Los Angeles, CA
6 Georgetown University Washington, DC
7 Temple University Philadelphia, PA
8 University of Texas--Austin Austin, TX
9 University of California--Berkeley Berkeley, CA
University of Washington Seattle, WA
lets say..i got into NYU,U of south carolina, temple, Uof T-austin, Uof washington
actually i got into NYU and temple and U of washing right now..others..i didn't send the
application. well which college should I go..is the problem but here is the story-
NYU is super expensive and..many things that distract me..
and u of south carol is too far away and hard(?)<--no people and no high reputation etc
Austin is far too ...well washington..NO say haha
so i am only left with Temple..but Temple does not go up to above 5(ranking) and
it doesn't have good reputation such as..it's for dumb college. well i agree that it is get in but this ranking tells me that it is good college. but is it still good to goto other University? the reputation is going to affect me when i am looking for a job?

i got 3.76 GPA and 2070 on SAt and 800 on math 2C and 760 on Chem for subject tests
well i worked hard...and i think it's kinda sad to goto temple...well still idk
temple got many campus around all world so...it's gonna be benefit? i guess?
but still is it good to go NYU? cause my tutor..who graduated temple RMI major(ranked top 4th that time) tried to get a job and he competed with USC and austin students...which r lowly ranked than temple..and he couldn't get a job. some people said that it is because temple is not like TOP school overall...is that true??

where should I GO?

Well first off, why did you apply to Temple if you think it’s a “dumb college”?

That said, I think you need to make a visit to the schools you’ve mentioned and see which you feel comfortable with at best. In other words, go to a college where you feel you can see yourself for the next 4 years. It might be NYU, UT-Austin, Washington, South Carolina, or heck might be Temple. I wouldn’t put too much weight on these rankings. I mean like you said, NYU has an outstanding reputation, but if you’re gonna have financial trouble, then was it really worth going?

Really? Not only is that not remotely true, but as a current Temple student, I find that incredibly insulting. Not only do we have a terrific business school, in a brand new $80,000,000 state-of-the-art building, but we’re a terrific bargain for in-state students.

If you’re going to act like that, please, by all means, go elsewhere.

If you can swing NYU, go. Temple will not give you the same access to jobs nor will S. Carolina. Those rankings are meaningless, no top school has an international business major.

New York University
University of Pennsylvania
University of Michigan
University of Southern California
Georgetown University
University of Texas-Austin
University of California-Berkeley
University of Washington

Last time I checked, those were all top schools.

everybody thank you for…replys em wth i just wrote up there haha a lot of typos and mistakes well w/e it’s really late em…
JHB619, thank you really… i mean i understand but i get too much pressure and …it’s just asians who say that temple is bad…personally i think it is ok…school in pre-med and Med, business, RMI etc so yea…i’ll consider it again thank you very much

diontechristmas , i’m sorry…but no offense.i was just comparing it to NYU and other colleges. i visited temple before and it was really good. my cousins go there.

hmom5, i don’ tunderstand “Temple will not give you the same access to jobs nor will S. Carolina”…so NYU students do get benefits?

We have a very large Asian population, both international and American Asian, so that doesn’t make too much sense.

hmom is trying to say that NYU has access to better jobs than SCar and Temple, which is definitely true. NYU has an elite business school, SCar and Temple don’t. That being said, is NYU worth $180,000 more to you? (figuring you get a $10,000+ a year scholarship to Temple). That’s a downpayment on a house.

These days you need a job to buy a house. Go to the best school you can afford.

Well you need over $200,000 to attend NYU…

^ No you don’t…70% of nyu students are on financial aid. I’m not on FA, but I’m paying about $160k. If they want you, they’ll give you money. NYU has crappy FA compared to many private schools though.

What Hmom meant is many top schools like ivies don’t have undergrad business majors, they only have business for grad school, so the rankings are skewed since many colleges normally ranked in the top 30 don’t even have business programs - don’t take rankings too seriously!

Don’t go to NYU if you can’t afford it. college is seriously not worth all that debt, and NYU isn’t exactly an ivy.

Temple isn’t a “dumb college”, if you’re from PA it’s a great deal.

Here’s one option: Go to Temple or some other school that is affordable for 2 years, do well, then transfer to your top choice. My friend from HS went to a SUNY on full scholarship, got a 3.7 gpa, and is now transferring to NYU for International Business. The students in Stern and Wharton aren’t learning secret knowledge that isn’t available anywhere else :stuck_out_tongue: If you transfer, you’ll graduate with the same degree and save yourself money, while still getting a great education.

^^^ Well no offense to the OP, but I doubt he’ll get enough aid to offset the costs. $160,000 is still a lot of money for an undergraduate education

It’s true that NYU costs a lot for an undergrad education, but in business, it would be quite possible to make back that money and them some in a few years if you got a top job.
