Class Rank: top 3% (around 650 in my class)
Overall GPA: i think around a 4.8ish (not sure tho)

Colleges:
UPenn (Wharton)
NYU (Stern)
UMichigan Ann Arbor
USC
U Texas Austin
UCLA
UC Berkeley
(for all the schools above, i'd be applying to their business schools)

I'm thinking of early decisioning either NYU or UPenn, what do you guys think?

Safties:
ASU
U of A
(both are instate)

and do you guys suggest any other good colleges that are strong in business?

I don't think you would get into UPenn with your current SAT and your EC are sort of weak. A higher SAT would definately help you.

i also forgot to add that i am historian of the orchestra council and also publicist (or something like that, i forgot the technical term).....AND....i am a student ambassador for my school.

so that should cushion my EC's a bit

and also, i just finished a practice ACT test...so expect vast improvements on the ACT score too.

Based on your current SATs, ACTs, etc.

UPenn (Wharton) - Big reach
NYU (Stern) - Big reach
UMichigan Ann Arbor - Reach
USC - Reach
U Texas Austin - Reach (out of state)
UCLA - Reach (out of state)
UC Berkeley - Reach (out of state)

To change the situation, you would have to do substantially better on your SATs or ACTs. Figure at least 1450 cr+m/2250 on the SATs, 730 or above on Math 2, and a 32 or 33 composite on the ACT.

If you can't push your standardized test scores higher, you need to look at good, but somewhat less selective schools. Here's a list of B-schools to consider:

Indiana U, Kelley
Ohio Stat U, Fisher
Penn State, Smeal
Purdue, Krannert
U of Maryland, Smith
Michigan State U, Broad
University of Washington
Boston College, Carroll
Case Western, Weatherhead

There are more, of course, but this should give you a start.

standardized testing is definately not my forte, but I was hoping that my class rank, gpa, and overall academic record would somewhat make up for that.

Also, the ACT score shown, is when I didn't study at all for it and just went in not knowing at all what to expect, and no i've been studying for it and doing practice tests, and i've been averaging alot higher, especially on english. and i plan on studying alot for the sat subject tests.

So...assuming that I have good ACTs, and good SAT II's (without forgetting about my academic record, ECs, etc...).... what are my chances now?

jsong33:

UCB/UCLA: Reach (out of state)

amptron2x has a good list.

Almost no chance at Wharton, small chance at Stern and UCB (though no guarantee for Haas). nothing "makes up" for low standardized test scores at top schools.

thanks you guys. bump.
any more responses and suggestions?
