um...well for the rolling admission
if i send the application on nov 2nd, is it late??
i mean some ppl even applied yesterday..
is there big difference? nov 2nd and oct 7th?

and DO I HAVE TO WRITE AN PERSONAL ESSAY?
it says optional..but is it goood to write it?
or can i not do it?

The difference between November 2nd and October 7th is precisely 26 days. Is there a reason why you must send your application on November 2nd? If you have decent credentials, I doubt it would matter as I sent mine around this time 3 years ago.

Well, last year they started sending out acceptances the first week in November, so theoretically if you have your application in by then, you have better odds of getting an early decision. (Of course, many people believe that only the shoo-ins get decisions the first week, but I’m not certain that’s totally true.)

They had a record number of applicants last year, and I suspect it will be even higher this year, so I’d get your application in as soon as you can.

The essay is optional, but it’s pretty short, so I’d probably just do it anyway. As coskat says, if you don’t do it and you don’t end up getting accepted, you’ll probably always wonder if it would have made a difference.

definitely write the essay. it is short and you have nothing to lose. as far as rolling admission: it doesn’t matter if you get it in sept. 1 or in nov. btw, last year admissions told me that they pool all of the applicants after the due date in nov. in order to see how the general applicant pool looks. from our experience, students with higher sat’s and grades hear earlier, which is what happened with our daughter (nov.) and lower stats hear then also (branches). i don’t think psu is a real rolling admissions school. my son applied to pitt last year at the same time as psu (early sept.) and he heard from psu in jan. and pitt in october.

Write the essay-sometimes that can give them a little extra to go on. As far as rolling admission- My son last year sent his application in early in Sept. He didn’t hear until the end of January. He was one of those cases of being right in the middle. Very high scores and gpa usually hear right away as well as too low that either get offered a branch campus or out right declined if very low. Last year the number of applications were huge and will probably be again this year. My son was offered the Summer LEAP program- which at first he hated the thought of giving up his summer-but wanted to be at Penn State UP so much that he agreed to do it. He said that he was so glad that he made that decision because now some of his closest friends are those he made during the summer doing the LEAP program. So depending on where your grades and stats fall- when you apply doesn’t seem to make much difference. In any case I would still say try to apply early with the highest scores and grades you have and give them info in the essay that might help sway them in your favor. If you are concerned that your grades might not be higher enough for UP then consider the Summer LEAP program- because it does increase your chances of getting in. Good Luck.
