Help me select where to go - CA or AZ?

Hi,

I’m a CA resident, but I ended up with just one UC admit so far …

SAT 1280, 3 SAT 2’s add up to 2000, UC GPA 3.0 (bummer),
2 AP’s in senior year with 3.8 GPA (UC doesn’t care),
decent EC’s with tennis, debate, and service stuff,
at demanding northern CA public school.

I want to do business undergrad and law school. What’s your
advice on where I should go?

ASU, Honors College, Deans Scholar direct admit to Carey Biz school

U of Arizona, admit to pre-business, Keller Biz school

UC Santa Cruz, economics major

San Jose State, business major

Choice of good local community colleges: De Anza, Ohlone,
Chabot, Diablo Valley …

I know this sounds like - do you want to party in the desert,
party on the beach, or stay home? But seriously, where would you go?

Thanks!

Stay in California.

I live in Arizona, and can't stand it. Partying in the desert may SOUND like fun, but believe me, the heat is just not worth it.

stay in california, i live here too and i wouldnt want to go anywhere in arizona

I agree with the previous posters.

I live in Arizona... its pretty damn hot. And no beaches.

I would personally choose between UC-SC and Barretts. Barretts is a whole separate class from ASU. The bright students I know who go there do very well and have great opportunities, have all gone on to do great things, and with relatively less, stress then their friends at the Ivys. They are attracting tons of merit scholars and top scholars from across the country because of their great finaid and amazing grad school, med school/law school stats. I do not know Santa Cruz except have heard it is beautiful there, so can't compare them. Arizona is hot in the summer but you will not be there then. The rest of the year is pretty nice, and you have the rest of your life for the beach being from Ca.

uarizona if its the same cost as ucsc

Stay in cali, if your not satisfied with UCSC go to de anza for a couple years, then transfer into the UC of your choice, i took clsses at de anza and its actually a pretty chill place.

if youre okay with this, go to De Anza. Good transfer rates to a more desirable UC.

I live in Arizona and love it.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I know someone who went to the Honors
college at UT Austin, did well, and on to Columbia Law school. Can I do
something like that after ASU Barret Honors ... or am I dreaming?

My parents tell me that I may be better off doing well in a school like
ASU and the getting into UC Hastings or UC Davis Law school which
have high bar passing rates. I wonder if the UC Law programs would
prefer UCSC over ASU.

I'm considering appealing UC Davis, but I'm not sure that's best for me ...
Another 4+ years competing with the same kind of dudes struggling
to be part of the 25 valedectorians in my school? All that to be part
of a mediocre business program in agricultural economics?
What the heck, I'll appeal any way.

Keep those insights coming!

I disagree. The U of Arizona and ASU both have awesome business programs. They also both have better reps with employers than UCSC.
Assuming money isn't an issue for you, I'd go to either over UCSC, San Jose, or a california CC. I'd personally lean towards the U of Arizona but that's just personal preference. I like Tuscon more than phoenix.

I live in Arizona and love it, too. It can get kinda hot, but, seriously, that's why every place you'll prolly ever go in AZ is very nicely air conditioned. And once you get over the three-four month HOT period in the summer, the rest of the year is def. nice. Just my $0.02...I love my state. =P

If you are making your decision based on grad school go with Barretts. Their acceptance rate for students top choice grad schools is over 90%.
