If CS is your thing then the best colleges that would match your profile would be top publics (which you already have listed. Top LACS are good places to go if you want significant aid (aid is not easy to get but , but at least they offer it compared to publics), but other than aid I don't think top LACS have much going for them in terms of Computer Science speaking strictly from employment perspective. A lot of private engineering colleges are a good bet , Rice, RPI , Rose-Hulman et al as they are generous with $$ and have good recruitment afaik.
Btw which school r u from in Delhi?

TheOneCurlyFry: Are these Early action and SCEA options also available for graduate schools??? I am also an intl planning to pursue a master's degree in Computer Engineering from the US.

That's precisely what I want to know mate. Since I am not averse to doing an Economics and CS double major at an LAC, does it make sense for me to go to one provided I get good aid ? I suppose the job opportunities are better for people from CMU, Georgia Tech etc ?

Does anyone have a list of unis that accept the common app ? Thanks.

All of those LACs accept the Common App. :D

Are these LACs(Economics+CS) better than the Canadian schools(CS only) that I mentioned ?

@20Legend
just go to commonapp.org They have a full list of colleges which accept the common app. Oh and while there are cases of people who got in w/ sub 2050 SAT's, you got to remember that SAT is one of the least looked at criterion. This isn't India mate! US Colleges look at a lot more than merit. Those who get in with low SAT's have something to more than make up for it. Also, you are an international (unless you are a US citizen?) and it will be so much harder.

I am not saying that you cannot make it, but that it isn't as easy as (I think) you think it is.

Abso, I have no idea about grad school admissions, I'm not even in college yet!

Thanks. But I do feel that it's not as tough to get into a good uni as you think it is. People with >2050 scores got into Yale(1), Wharton(2), Brown(2), UT Austin(4) from my school last year. Heck a guy with an 1810 got into UT Austin !

These people are not the rule. It's great if you can get in, and if you have the money for all these applications, you should definitely apply to Ivies, Caltech, etc. Your 630 R is pretty bad, though (not as an average, just if you're aiming for the elite colleges.) It doesn't hurt to have a bigger SAT score. People with <2050 scores who are rejected from these colleges FAR outnumber people who are accepted.

Also, writing isn't counted so much, so it's not so bad if you do badly on the writing section.

Yeah, that's what everyone thinks. That's why Colgate's CS kids get internships with Microsoft and such, and Oberlin's CS grads go on to Ivy grad schools . It's not true.

FACTS:

-Oberlin’s Science Center features a 64-bit supercomputer – the first installed at any four-year, liberal arts college in the nation.
-Since 1920, more Oberlin graduates have gone on to earn PhDs than have graduates of any other American baccalaureate college.

Yes, the commonapp website. We're not doing your research for you.

Wonderful CurlyFry, couldn't have put it better.

Lol. I'd already edited my post there about the common app thing ;).

Anyway, curlyfry, thanks a lot. I think I'm going to apply to a few LACs. Off my list on the last page, which ones are the best (have 0 idea about LACs).

And you're sure about the whole CS @ LACs thing right ?

Also, like I said, I will be giving the SAT Reasoning Test again in October or November; Will definitely do better on the CR section :).

I am going to a liberal arts college for CS. Does that not say something? I was accepted to UCLA. I chose Oberlin over it.

Someone PMed me some Ph D. stats: http://web.reed.edu/ir/phd.html.

You're welcome!

Did you get any aid at Oberlin ?

How do I check whether or not a uni offers ED/EA ?

Curlyfry, is the oberlin campus good ?
