Help me solve a facet of a Math Problem

Please explain how

x=a(x+10) yields x= 10a/1-a

along with your thought process. I just know this has some simple method that I am overlooking.

Thanks in advance for your response.

P.S. I absolutely loathe the explanations in the Nova SAT Math bible. Can anyone recommend a Math Book with easy to understand and DETAILED explanations?

Well, since you’re solving for x you’re going to want to get all of the x variables onto one side. If you distribute the a on the right side, you’re left with

x=ax+10a

Now you can subtract ax from both sides

x-ax=10a

Pull out an x

x(1-a)=10a

Then divide both sides by (1-a) and you’ll have solved for x

x=10a/(1-a).
