Help me to Decide which University to finalize

Hey I m From Mumbai I applied in 10 universities i got reply from 6 universities

Stevens Inst of Technology
Farleigh Dickinson University
Illinois- Springfield
New jersey Institute of Technology
University of Bridgeport
Pace university
i Want to do MS in Computer Science.and i am ready to pay the amount at any college. Issue is that i am looking for Best college from above where i can get good facilities to learn subjects, and Also future Job Prospects?..Which University is best if u could suggest me to finalize than it would be great help by you.

Hey I don’t know anything about any of these schools but I do have something for your post.

None of these.
I mean, if you’re looking for ‘good facilities and future job prospects’ then you’ll find atleast 5 more colleges here in India that have BETTER MS programs.
Unless, of course you’re dead set on going to ‘America’.

And where you do your MS is a much more important decision compared to choosing a college for undergrad. So it’s important that you select a good college rather than choosing from a Pace or a Dickinson or a Bridgeport University (Plus there’s the fact that you’re ready to pay the complete amount)

Sadly, I have to agree with compscifan.

I will play a devil’s advocate. Yes, the schools in that list are not very well known. But it doesn’t mean that OP won’t get a good education there. Even tier III schools have better facilities for engineering than top schools in India. We know a number of people who have been placed well after graduating from places like NJIT and SIT. Many tier III schools have faculty members with good reputation in the industry and if you do your masters thesis with one of them you’ll be fine.
For example, at University of Houston if you work with Prof Chapman you will have multiple job offers before you graduate. There are people like Prof Chapman all over who prefer smaller schools like UH and be independent.

I’d advise people who don’t know about the universities to not post at all.
You’re not answering the OP’s question by telling him that there are better colleges in India. Plus, the fact that those aren’t all that well known in India doesn’t mean that they won’t provide a good education/placements. Kindly check your facts before trying to dish out advice to non-undergrad students.

This doesn’t sound right…

I did. The advice is that he can get better education here in India. I would suggest YOU not to post if you don’t any advice to OP or if you can’t rank those universities fo him.

@Blue_box: agreed

See guys i dont want to know what facilities INDIA provide. Here we dont get practical knowledge and our system of education is very outdated and not used in terms of Computer science for this reason i m going to US.And the facts of schools which i gave you was the best what i could hve got from my profile.

I had a confusion whether to go to NJIT OR Dickinson or Stevens Thts becoz my relatives stays near to all of them.Which is best for me…?.

CS you say. I can comment on 3 of these.

NJIT > Stevens >> Dickinson.

The CS program at IIT/NIT/BITS is really good, for your information. Don’t underestimate Indian education. But then again, if someone’s from a crappy institution then they’ll obviously not have a good CS curriculum

^ And out of the above mentioned, BITS has has the best CS dept/program in the nation.

I knw IIT n other colleges hve good education bt u also knw tht how hard it is to get a seat in those colleges.

And apart from This universities. i am waitng for California State University,LongBeach
and NYU POLY
AND PLEASE HELP ME TO finalize my school…i m very much confused…with evry1’s opinion…

I’d say NYU Poly if you get in!

And I’d also concur with the other posters. You are better off going to a top school in India (IIT off the top of my head) than a low ranked school in the US! At least for Job placement. IIT would looked way more impressive on your CV than University of Bridgeport. (Pardon my bluntness)

And I say this as someone who is neither Indian nor American.

Good luck!

It’s not like IIT’s a joke to get into. Ditto BITS.

Maybe the OP doesn’t think he can get in anywhere good and that’s why he’s looking at B+/B- schools abroad. Let’s face it, the facilities there would definitely be better than those at B grade schools here. Do try to look at it from OP’s perspective rather than blindly assuming that everyone who’s not in the Ivy rut is a fool and only ‘fascinated’ with the american dream.

To OP: Idk much about these schools but bridgeport was visiting when I was at USIEF one day. From what I could make out from a few parents there, it seemed to be good enough. (not top class obviously).
The International students forum/college admissions forum is where you’ll get more helpful information and more knowledgable users too. Here, we are a bunch of students who with a little knowledge consider ourselves to be given the authority to knock off every other aspirant who aims lower than the norm.
Seriously, even the Nepal forum is more polite. Confidential2015 is one user i have observed is very helpful in giving info about such colleges, maybe u should contact him. Here, with the exception of a few users, there’s little help (and more 'wise’cracks/sense of superiority) to be found.

For example, most here would argue that engineering at Yale/Dartmouth/Cornell(sorry ani, and i’m not pointing specifically at you dw) is what’ll make their career. Well, I’ve got news for you guys. Companies like Google look at state schools like UT and UW in a much more favorable way and recruit more actively from these schools because they know exactly what the strength of the engineering program is at the prev. batch of schools I mentioned.

/rant.

Yale engg sucks, Dartmouth doesn’t offer engg and Cornell isn’t tops for engg.
Google recruits more from Penn State than from Harvard.
And UT is an amazing school.

You think we didn’t know that? :S

Your post only reinforces what i said. See? Even penn state! I wasn’t really including you here in the category. Dmouth has tuck school of engineering btw.

tuck sucks …

No one here ever disagreed with you. Ivies are mainly for arts, pure sciences and stuff. And the prestige of the school mainly matters when/if you’re doing business/management.

Tuck? Haven’t even heard of it lol

@aniruddhc: Princeton and Cornell have good engineering programs. Not in the top five but good anyway.
