Help me to get into UCF!!

the biggest problem I have is my SAT score. I have a very average score: 1450. Since I am not an English speaker, My reading score is so low. Math: 630, Writing:440, Reading:380. Some people say that colleges will ignore my lower scores if the higher score is way higher. or because of I am not an English speaker, they will think that my low reading score is reasonable for me. Additionally, I know the 380 is not even the minimum score(460). But I have a ACT reading score:20 , which reach the minimum score 19. I know the deadline for UCF is until May 1 2014. So I am thinking about to retake SAT. Should I apply for UCF now? because I am worrying about that UCF will makes decision base on the score that I have right now. I plan to retake SAT on March, so should I apply for UCF until I get my March SAT score??? HELP

What is your ACT composite score? Is it high enough without the SAT scores for you to be admitted?

Are you an International student? The deadlines for admission are different if you are.

My Act is even worse ! I am a state resident. I have 3.6 GPA, what is my chance with the 1450 SAT score.

Should apply for it now? Or wait for march??

You may want to consider waiting until you can get your scores up. More importantly, think about the skills that you will need to be successful in college level classes. Have you thought about some intensive English instruction before attempting university level work? There is a lot of reading and writing required to be successful in college. If you have a rough start due to a lack of readiness, it can affect your GPA. Just a thought.

I have searched many data about the UCF scores online. I found out that their major SAT score is about 1500. So I think 1450 is not that bad for UCF. I am worrying about that if I wait for march, will it be too late that I will have less chance to get in

I do not think that UCF will combine scores from two different tests to meet minimum requirements. I believe that in the past they superscored the SAT. I do not know if they still do this. You could always contact them and ask that question. If I were you, I would not send in a score that I knew did not meet their minimum without other scores that were more favorable. Instead of being deferred, you would probably be rejected. You may want to contact the admissions counselor that serves your area and ask specific questions. I don’t think that my opinion or that of others on CC is nearly as important as that of the school itself. Good luck!

Thank you very much

Napermom is right-you really need to consider if this is the best choice. English skills and writing skills is of the utmost importance in college, as it can be the different between understand your class, and failing your class. The only time UCF accepts bellow their test scores are usually for student athletes-basically exceptions of the rule, because they need them at the school. So you really need to have that score, or over. What was your ACT score? Just because you have the bare minimum in reading does not mean you are okay-if you had lower then a 19, UCF would immediately reject you, it’s just their way of cutting the pool down. March will be cutting it close, especially since the longer you wait, the more competitive it is-if you had applied in october, it would be totally different. Now you’re going up against students who have very high scores, and can afford to apply late. I know this is not what you want to hear, but you have to prepare yourself for the worst. See how early you can retake the SAT or ACT, and try to improve on it.
