Help Me to Learn More About These Schools

Hi, I’m a student from Columbus, OH who is trying to learn more about the schools I’ve gotten into so far.

First I have gotten into ASU for Business Data Analytics, and am currently finishing my honors app there. Second, I got into U of Arizona for MIS (pre-business direct admit) and I’m also still finishing my honors app there. And lastly I got into Miami of OH for Business Analytics, and I’m still waiting to here about honors decisions. The other schools I’ve applied to but haven’t heard anything back from yet are Ohio State, Purdue, Georgia Tech, and Denison.

I want to hear any of the personal experiences you have had (any pros or cons are appreciated). This is especially true for the two Arizona schools as I haven’t gotten to visit those. I have visited Miami at the begining of March right before lockdowns. So please share with me anything you think I should know about any of these schools.

Edit: I got into Purdue yesterday and would also love to hear about it!! I got into the Supply Chain, Information, and Analytics major and am waiting for honors college decison.

Recently did a tour of ASU. Our tour guide was not very good. They had multiple tour groups out simultaneously and as we passed by others could tell they were more informative than ours. As far as the “stop and talk about parts of a tour” the below video covers much of what was said on our tour.

As for what the video or other videos may not give a sense of, here is what I can share. The campus is large not because it is spread out but because it has a lot buildings. Barrett alone has something like 9. General tour doesn’t cover Barrett but we walk to it on our own. It is reasonably close to the b-school and Carey is relatively close to main part of campus (student union, bookstore, library etc) and the athletic center. Barrett is on edge of campus and partly surrounded by commercial area (restaurants etc). Edges in general then transition into commercial areas. Campus is beautiful (lots of palms) and mostly feels contemporary. True of the surrounding area as well. One end of campus is near the river with a number of modern glass buildings. River area is very scenic and lit up with patio/Christmas type lights. It was in the 70s and super sunny this week. The air in AZ is extremely dry so different than OH. Overall seems to have a west coast vibe. Lots of skateboarding and scooters compared to colleges in the Southeast we toured. It may be because it’s flat and large. Basically geography of area is flat but surrounded by large hills in the distance. Phoenix metro area which includes Tempe has over 4M people but at least currently area around ASU doesn’t feel that way (not crowded or lots of traffic for overall area population). There’s a light rail system on edge of campus that will take you to downtown Phoenix. Can also get to airport with it. Airport is only 15 minutes from campus by car.

Hope that helps. Unfortunately, our guide didn’t know anything about the b-school so can’t share any insight there. Did say she thought Barrett was worth the extra cost.

Thank you so much, this is all very helpful information!

Couple more things my D and I noticed. There’s a fair amount of construction on and especially off campus so seems to be growing. Also, one thing that struck us as odd is that other than the tour guides we didn’t see students wearing much ASU gear or general evidence of school spirit compared to say UNC or Clemson where you can’t pass more than 10 students without one wearing school gear. Football stadium isn’t that big compared to size of school. So, if you are used to OSU, would guess ASU is not the same level sport scene.

BTW as someone who is in the business field including business analysis in my past :+1:on major choice.

Good luck with your decision making!

Thanks for the extra info, I think there are very few schools that match OSU’s school spirit, so I wasn’t stuck on that when applying, but still good to know. Glad to see that my major choice looks good to someone in the field!
