American parents are awesome! You know so much about college. : >

Just want to pick one from these two. (Have eliminated Rochester and RPI already!) Any advice? I am an international student. So really want to hear your suggestion!

My interest is business, economics and maths. I like to attend a diverse and dynamic community. Academics is also very important. I also consider school prestige but do not care too much about ranking (they look quite smilar), so which one should I go to? Which one is more prestigious in your eyes?

Brandeis's academics is Sooo strong, much stronger than Furman's, maybe more well-known. But Furman is a place make me feel i am highly valued: admission officer is extremely friendly. They also give me financial aid (money is not the main issue, but it really makes our family less stressful), so it is much cheaper. It is said it's also quite prestigious in southeast. I do think they are both nice choice. But I still can not make up my mind.

I’ve read a couple of your threads and it’s great you have narrowed it down. At this point, I think you need to come up with the answer based on your own priorities. Make a pros/cons list for each. I visited Brandeis with DD; never been to Furman (or even on their website).

For me, pros to Brandeis would start with small size, location near Boston, great academics (and excellent % for getting into grad school). Cons would definitely include the weather. It’s a very liberal school - don’t know if that’s a pro or con for you.

Furman: All I know is that it definitely has better weather! If cost is better for you, that’s a big PRO also.

You really need to make two columns and see what YOU think are pros and cons of each. Parents here can only tell you their POV.

Congratulations getting into these schools and good luck!

PUtting the cost aside, I would not let the fact that the admissions officer is friendlier to you sway you one way or the other. You won’t be interacting with admissions once you’re on campus! Unless Furman is putting you in some honors program, you will be the same as anyone when you are a student there…

These schools will have completely different cultures and campus environments, in addition to the academic differences.

Forget prestige, because it probably does depend on where you want to end up after school; in the south, in the northeast, in grad school, etc. On any scale, academically Brandeis is clearly the far better choice.

Think about what campus you want to live on for the next four years and how important the academics are to you, with an emphasis on “you.”

brandieis is #34 National Universities, furman is #39 Liberal arts. Two different categories. Both schools tuition is around 40,000. Both schools will get you into whatever post grad you are interested in. Furman has a bigger campus (750 acres). If you like college sports Furman is better. Brandieis enrollement is 3300, Furman is around 2700. No major difference.

The biggest decision you need to make is if you want to be in the Northeast or Southeast. Lots of kids from the Northeast go to Furman and love it. Not sure the other way around

Clifford, you have absolutely made the right decision. Brandeis is known for diversity, inclusiveness, and dedication to social justice. Best of luck with your college career!
