The sentence is:
The greatest number of people watch television between 6:00 P.M. and (11:00 P.M., and this is what causes advertisibg rates to be at their) most expensive during this block of time. -part in parenthesis is underlined.

I was debating between
A. 11:00 P.M.;advertising rates are therefote at their
B. 11:00 P.M., thus advertising rates are

The answer is A, but i dont understand! Isnt thus like the same thing as 'so'?? I feel like B is more concise than A..confused:/
Please help! I need detailed explanation please

B is wrong because it connects two independent clauses with a comma and a conjunctive adverb (“thus”) rather than a FANBOYS coordinating conjunction.

(and yes, “thus” is like “so” in meaning, but since it’s not a FANBOYS–for and nor but or yet so–it must be treated differently for grammar purposes.)
