I really want to get into either Uva, or Virginia tech, but im struggling with my schedule. Im a sophmore, about to be a junior next year. Heres my schedule for now...

AP U.s history(2 semesters)
Honors English
Anatomy
Algebra 2
Marine bio
German 4
Sociology

I already took Honors Earth science in 9th grade, and honors biology and regular chemistry in tenth grade, and i have all A's in them. Im think about being a biology major, so is this a good schedule? Also anyone who goes to Uva, may you please tell me about their bio department, thanks. Oh and one more thing! Do you need to take physics in high school if you're majoring in biology?

If your school offers them, you should probably take more AP classes – that’s definitely something that UVa is looking for (if your school doesn’t offer that many, don’t worry about it, UVa will take that into account). If you’re planning on being a science major, regardless of what specific field, you should plan to take physics in high school.

For any science major, at UVA/VT or anywhere, keep taking math! As you get into college-level study you will really need it. It sounds like you’re on track to take trig/precalculus in your senior year; if so, take it. If you can accelerate and get some AP calculus under your belt, that would be even better. AP Chemistry might also be a good choice for senior year.

Definitely take honors physics, too. You could leave this for senior year, or, if necessary, you could drop marine biology or anatomy to make room for it. The latter two might sound more “bio” oriented but actually the high school background you need for a bio major in college should be heavy on the math/chem/physics.

Thanks a lot guys! @ uvasystems2012, i wanted to take AP chemistry next year, but im scared about being overburdened, i might drop the two bio electives and switch it with that. My school doesnt offer much of other ap’s though.

@jingle i will definitely continue taking math, even though i suck at it haha. and i will take physics. Thanks. what classes are you guys taking next year?
