Help me with my College List?

I finished junior year a couple of weeks ago, so it’s time to start finalizing the college list!

Here are some of my stats:
-GPA: 3.93 UW, 4.38 W [I mostly took honors along 3 APs. I will be taking 3 more next year]
-SAT: 1420 [aiming for 1500+ this fall]
-RANK: 32/500ish
-ECs: FHS Co-President, participated in National French Contest and won medals every year (2 bronze, 1 silver), French Club member, NHS member, volunteering at library, volunteering at local youth organization, choir at school

Some additional info:
-As of now, I want to be a (Digital) Communications/Media Studies major (and possibly French as minor/major?)
-I live in NC and prefer warm weather
-I’m not really concerned with size
-I don’t plan on doing Greek life and I’m not much of a party person (its presence is ok as long as it isn’t overbearing)
-Diversity is important to me
-Mostly liberal

And here’s my college list:

  1. UNC Chapel Hill - match/reach?
  2. NC State - match
  3. Georgia Tech - reach
  4. University of Virginia -reach
  5. (I also have 2 safety but they are pretty local so I would rather not post them here)

Let me know if you think you have a school that will fit me! Price tag is something I’ll definitely look at privately with my parents. (Our income has been fluctuating as of late so it’s difficult to even give an estimate)

Thank you!! Have a great day

If you can get above a 1500 on the SAT, I bet you could get into UNC Chapel Hill. Its in-state acceptance rate is actually relatively high considering how strong its academics are. It also has a fantastic communications program so good luck!

You seem to be interested in public schools so here are two more that may be the right fit for you: UT Austin and University of Florida.

thank you @ShoutTurkey
I’ll take a look at your recommendations!

You absolutely do not need to get a 1500 on your sat to get into unc ch as an in state student. The 25 to 75 percentile is 1210 to 1420 sat in state for 2017 You’re already at the top of the range.

Agree you should be in good shape with UNC as long as you have very good essays and strong teacher recs – they are important to Carolina as they really don’t look just at stats. UVA is so similar to UNC that to me it’s hard to justify the higher cost as an OOS student, and communications is very good at UNC.

Most state flagships will have a little of everything so you can find your crowd. You might want to look at UGA. If private is on you radar, maybe WF and the University of Richmond.

My biggest advice is have a solid draft of your common app done by end of summer.

Great work so far and good luck!!
