okay here's my criteria/preferences:

less than 3000 (-2000 preferred)

not in the west.

very friendly and accepting student body. somewhat quirky, weird.

pretty campus

Here's my list so far--critique/feedback please! :):
Beloit--#1. EA
Wesleyan (hell of a reach school but it's #2)
Whitman
Reed
UoP (cuz my parents want me to go there.)

yeah Beloit's a good match, the middle 3 are reaches, UoP's pretty much a safety.

3.2 GPA--I did really, really bad junior year.. But I'm planning on getting back on track this year and planning on submitting a copy of my first qtr. report card w/my apps to show them that I've really improved. hopefully pull off a 3.4-.5 by the end of hs.

9: all honors
10: 2 AP classes--all honors/AP's
11: 2 AP classes, 1 self-studied for Fr. lang (had Fr. 4H)--all honors/AP's
12: 2 AP's, 2 to self-study (Italian, Psych)

12th grade schedule:
reg Eng
reg gov
French 5AP (french lit)
AP Calc BC
Art 1
and then hopefully culinary arts since AP physics B was no longer available.. grr

around top 25% in my class (maybe 30-33%?)
badminton team JV 10th grade
JSA executive aide 11th grade
Humor Club publicist 11th grade (but won't show up on my transcript cuz too late in the year--will this year still count if i report it on Common App?)

and Humor Club publicist 12th grade.

SAT's (gonna retake in Oct.):
570R, 710M, 620W
Math2: 730
US History: 630

ACT (gonna retake in Oct):
29 (everything I got around 30 or higher except Eng. which I bombed)

Beloit: I wanna go here bc the student body is very friendly and quirky as well. And everyone knows each other--tight knit. It is a good match for me academics wise. The profs care about you and the campus looks pretty and even though the town's a dud everyone has a lot of fun. Plus it's near Chicago, where I've never been before. Midwest.

Wesleyan: The student body is quirky but very fun. 2800 students. Seems to have a vibrant atmosphere.

Whitman: It seems very pretty, everyone seems very happy, and the profs seem great. But seems a bit outdoorsy which I'm not haha.

Reed: Energetic fun atmosphere; fun, weird ppl, nice city.

UoP: I visited here and it's a very nice campus and it has everything (grocery store, theater, etc..) but doesn't seem to stand out and it's only an hour away..

I've got my college list and I pretty much know where I'm going but it's all tentative. So just in case, I'd like to know about more school's that might be a good match for me. THANKS SO MUCH! :)

Kalamazoo, College of Wooster, and Allegheny come to mind.

Sarah Lawrence, Hampshire seem within reach. Vassar can be another reach if you're interested.

Just to help, I would recommend NOT sending your SATs if possible. Your 29 on the ACT is pretty close to the midrange of your reaches and within range for your matches/safeties. Securing a 31/32 (which I think you can do as most anyone can improve with practice) would make your reach schools more of a possiblity.

Look at Colleges That Change Lives by Loren Pope They all seem to match what you're looking for, except that like 2 schools are in the west.

www.ctcl.com

I wouldn't say that Beloit is "near" Chicago...it's about a two hour drive, and with Chicago traffic, it'll take you at least three to get to your actual destination. Nice school though.

And I'll second Kalamazoo.

Ohh! And another thought - if you want to be close to the city, but in a quirky atmosphere, try UChicago. It's a little bit bigger than what you're aiming for, but I think it would be a great fit.
