Help me with these school admission chances please.

Im extremely worried as to if I am or am not going to get into any of the schools I applied to.

My GPA, is by no means excellent. Its actually disgraceful. Its an unweighted 3.2, primarily due to the fact that I just didn't take things seriously in my freshman and sophomore year. However there is an extreme upward spiral in my grades and how I am averaging above a 4 gpa. Will colleges consider this? And would I be able to get into any of the following schools?

Drexel
Penn State
U of Del
Carnegie Mellon
Johns Hopkins
RPI
Rose-Hulman

As stated my GPA is 3.2 UW
I have taken AP:
Chemistry
Economics
English 11
English 12
and US History

I have taken two years of chemistry and I am taking AP chemistry as well as physics in my senior year.

My SAT score is 2260

My SAT II's

Math II 620
Chemistry 710
US history (lets not talk about that one)

and my extra curricular activities:

Boy scouts (Eagle scout/patrol leader)
FBLA (Vice-President)
FLHS
Robotics (programmer)
Service club
yearbook
Badminton
Classical guitar player (8-years)
Approximately 400+ hours of community service.

Do you think I have a shot at any of the above schools?

You’ll have good options, but you need to revise this list a bit. Your SAT scores will help you greatly, but I’d suggest you add a couple more schools in the 3.3-3.5 GPA accepted average range. I don’t know the stats for the last two schools on your list off the top of my head, so forgive me if they’re both in that range). I think you’ll be admitted to Drexel and U Delaware (and possibly be awarded merit aid), but this is just an opinion! Use the College Data for “chances”. It’s very accurate since they use the current year’s Common Data Sets. The downside is that they can’t predict the strength of your essays and teacher recs, but neither can anyone here on CC!

[CollegeData: College Search, Financial Aid, College Application, College Scholarship, Student Loan, FAFSA Info, Common Application](http://www.collegedata.com/)

I would add a couple schools at least. What’s your planned major (I’m guessing engineering, but could you confirm?). What state are you located? What can your family afford? Are you only interested in universities?

I had forgotten to add my major, but you were correct in your guess. I am majoring in chemical engineering.

I am not only interested in a university but thy are my primary interest. But what would you suggest to add to my list?

Oh and as for extra information. Financial aid would be helpful but not needed. I live in NY on LI.

3.2 UW is not disgraceful by any absolute measure; the only reason I’d spend any time reflecting on it is if you know it falls far short of your potential. But you’ve already adjusted and are pulling a 4, so I just wouldn’t worry about it. Some colleges will consider the trajectory; others won’t. You can’t control what colleges will consider, which is one reason people endorse the reach/match/safety approach.

To answer your actual question, what are your chances…I’d say all are a reach because of GPA. Not laugh out loud reaches – they’re good reaches. Pick out a SUNY or CUNY as a safety, and take jkiwmom’s advice on finding some matches.

I would definitely retake the math II if you’re trying for an engineering major, your SAT I score suggests you can do better. I would also look at school year and summer opportunities to work in a lab doing research or at a company in an internship related to your major.

I agree with adding some solid match schools, maybe a SUNY or 2. I think the high end of your list-JHU and CMU-are unrealistic reaches, but the others are worth a try.

I agree, add a couple SUNYs (a safety and a target), and would also suggest Bucknell U., U Wisc.-Madison. Drop two of your reaches, so you don’t over burden yourself with the app. load.

I also just want to say that I really do feel you’ll get into some fantastic chemical engineering schools, so don’t worry! Just keep doing what you’ve been doing. Your grade point now says a lot about your motivation and you should be so proud of this accomplishment, not having regrets!
