Hey guys, after a 6 month hiatus, I'm back, but this time I have some very bad news and I need you guys' help. I just recieved my final grade for Chem 135 which unfortunately is a B (possibly B+) but it will not be an A. I might even get another B in one other science class I am freaking out because I was straight A's in my high school AP science classes, but even more important, knowing how competitive medical schools are, I think my chances for medical school are just about over and it has always been my dream to become a doctor. I was wondering if I still have a chance at medical school and if so, what I need to do in the future in order to boost my resume. If any of you are pre-med or are familiar with medical school admissions I would appreciate your input

Perhaps this forum will provide you a better insight.

@mrphysics, really? You are fine, for now. You just need to figure out what went wrong. Did you get behind? Did you skip classes? Did you get help as soon as possible? Attend discussion?

Since medical schools compute a total gpa and a science gpa, getting two Bs in science courses is not a good start, but you still have plenty of time to fix it. I assume you are a science major, so you will have many science credits to average in.

I understand how your first B might be a shock (if it ever happened to me, I’d be a wreck ), but now you know you have limits and you need to allocate time according to your needs in a better way. Don’t get behind in orgo. It’s a fast moving class and it will be very difficult to catch up.

I am pre-med (taking the MCAT in Jan. and doing the AMCAS this spring, so I can probably answer most of your questions about the process. Good luck.

@plumazul, thanks for the advice, i really appreciate your input, most of the things that you mentioned is what happened to me this semester. I’ve also learned my lesson never to take a hard teacher (Dixon) no matter how good he/she might be, but instead to take an easy teacher for orgo like Khatchick. I’m going to study for orgo all break.
