Can someone help me..I'm Canadian and it's still just a bit confusing. My heart is set on UCLA and I thought I was a very good student. I have 93% average throughout school which I calculated to be 3.83 GPA and I've been around the top 10% and even better within my school every year. I just took my SATs and I know I need to take them again. What exactly are considered "good" SAT scores for this school and what is considered the "ideal" GPA? I thought I was doing great in school, all my classes I've had 90% and higher and I've received honours awards from my school but I see people saying they have 4.0 GPAs in IB programs and AP courses (which my school does not offer because we're a specialized arts school) that are scared of getting in. Someone help me out!

Here's the breakdown... Your self-converted 3.83 GPA is unweighted, which means your weighted GPA is probably ~4.33 (assuming you took at least 4 AP/IB/honors courses). Good SAT scores for UCLA are ~2100 (SAT I) and ~720/720/720 (SAT IIs) and the ideal GPA is ~4.25 weighted, which usually corresponds to ~3.75 unweighted (assuming you took at least 4 AP/IB/honors courses), which is a 87.5% Canadian average. Most Canadians at UCLA have >90% averages so you're definitely competitive; when I converted my Canadian average to an unweighted GPA it was only ~3.75, and look at me now...

great! thanks that really helped!
but my school does not offer any APs or Honor classes because it's a specialized art school. we just have all normal classes at the same level. So does that mean my GPA is still 3.83 and will stay unweighted? Does that make a huge difference when applying?

I don't think UC's will penalize you if the school you go to has no AP (or honor) classes.
