HELP! Meaning behind request for "Supplemental information application"

Recently UCLA asked me to submit additional information on their supplemental application basically asking me to elaborate on things already mentioned in my initial application.

Does this mean the school is very borderline with my acceptance?? As in not completely rejected, but also not really sure about accepting me. Please let me know any thoughts!!

Yes this is what it means. The supplemental will most likely decide if you get in. Could post your stats for me please? I also applied to UCLA and I would like to compare since I did not get a supplemental.

@gman333

I am from Maryland so I am an out of state resident.
I have a low gpa of 3.02UWGPA/3.6WGPA which I believe is my weakest point.
MY SAT is 670 critical reading, 630 mathematics, and 640 writing
I have taken a total of 6 AP classes, passed all exams, and have taken a total of 2 college courses at my community college through dual enrollment.
I work part time during the summer and a am year around athlete.
I have 360+ SSL hours and I am student council president and national honor society president.
I am an Asian female, Jewish, adopted and come from a single mother home.
And I have the extenuating circumstances of a manic bipolar father who abused prescription medication, had three suicide attempts, remarried four times, and has 7 children from separate marriages, and all the stuff you could imagine that would go along; but I know a lot of people have extenuating circumstances so that may not be so significant.

Im really on the lower end of their statistics so I was probably lucky to get a request for supplemental information. If your stats are more in line with theirs I’m sure youre fine. Good luck!!

You’re stats are low but everything else is amazing! UCLA puts a lot of interest in EC’s and you extenuating circumstance is not normal at all. Which supplemental did they send you? Was it just asking for extra info?

I also got one of these. 1890 SAT. 570CR/ 570M/ 750 W. Yes my stats are low. That’s why I consider it a blessing. :smiley:

@gman333 It was only two questions, fairly straight forward. The first one asked for elaboration on a specific skill/talent/quality previously mentioned in your first application, and the second question asked for elaboration on extenuating circumstances that may have held you back academically, so yeah, just asking for extra info. They probably just wanted more clarification.

@agreatperhaps13 what were your EC’s and course load? Do you know anyone who received one?

Okay. Do you know what you are going to write about for you specific skill? By the way, here is a link to my stats for comparison if you would like to see. I have many of the same EC’s as you. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1601533-chance-me-for-my-schools.html#latest</a></p>

I received both of the same kind; talent and hardships. I honestly didn’t know what to write about for talent, so I placed a lot of emphasis on my internship as an academic achievement. My course load is 6 AP’s (AP English Lang, AP English Lit, APUSH, AP US Government, AP Bio, and AP Euro), 6 honors, 4 community college courses, and a bunch of others. My EC’s involve tutoring low-income kids, volunteering at the animal shelter, youth philanthropy, internship, NHS, CSF, martial arts, etc etc. I personally don’t know anyone at my school who got one.

I don’t anyone else who got one either. Your EC’s are very good. I think that’s why you got one.
@agreatperhaps13 What’s your GPA?

Thanks. That gives me a little comfort! 4.1 W

My stats are low and I didn’t get one. I think I got rejected.

Given the family situation the OP mentioned, are their financial resources to pay to attend ? UC schools do not give financial aid for the out-of-state part of the cost. See for example http://financialaid.ucdavis.edu/undergraduate/students/NonResident.html</a></p>

Or see page 4 of http://www.fao.ucla.edu/publications/2012-2013/ePAL_Guide.pdf</a> which specifically says that UCLA will just offer loans to cover the out-of-state cost.

i have an sat score of 1400, but my gpa is a 3.91. Im cheer captain, asb, NHS member, and over 220 hours of community service. I dont live my parents, they peaced out when i was little for drugs, i wrote an elaborate essay about my life in my app. I got a supplemental request and now just waiting to hear back. FREAKING OUT. :-S
