Sooo as u can see from my username i wanna go to brown…however i currently am having major issues with my calc grade…My GPA is currently good (3.95ish UW), but I might get a C or even D in calc this semester (hopefully a C or better) so my GPA may be brought down to 3.8ish…

Since my UW is still acceptable, would brown not want to accept me bcos of my math grade or would they just look at my UW GPA without looking at the C? I’m very scared especially since I’m a junior…

Did you apply early decision? If you did then they will not see this grade for this semester unless you submit the grades you have for mid semester which is optional. Then if you are accepted early decision when they get your end of semester grades for December if you are accepted it will not affect you much as long as your other grades are good. If you are applying regular decision then they will be looking at your first semester grades and they will take this into account. They will wonder why you are not performing well in this class when all your other grades are great. In that case they may ask for a mid year report for second semester to see if you improved.
Is this an AP course or honors course? Can you drop down to an easier level the second semester?

Wait, so Brown only sees grades at the end of each year, not per semester? YES!

Because in 9th grade, I got two Cs and the rest As, but I dropped Honors Biology for regular, and got an A in it. Basically all throughout highschool I’ve maintained a 3.7 UW GPA; As in everything except math.

Also, what do you want to major in, because if you want to be a math/physics major it might be a problem. If you want to major in english/humanities, it won’t be as big of a deal.

i think a D will definitely be a problem, but a C isn’t detrimental. i would really focus in that class though (since you’re a junior). and definitely try to up it next semester and get an A or a B, and a good AP score. but a 3.8+ GPA is still really strong, so don’t kill yourself.

You might see if the teacher/administration will go for a pass/fail designation instead of the C. Any chance of switching to something more palatable for next semester?
(I know this is just a chat forum, but I do get a bit worried when I see someone posting using the ee cummings route of no caps and the text messaging shortcuts. That habit may bite you in the backside when it slides into your essays or applications. Seniors just get so busy and stressed that it is easy to skimp on proofreading. The person who reads your folder may be 65 years old and Not Amused. . . .). Good luck!

hey i have a question… i saw what sak09 said about being in the top 5% of your class… i’m not even in the top 10% (Top 12.05% of ~550 students)! I applied ED, and I’m really, really scared. What’s gonna happen?

It all depends on who you are and how you present yourself on ur apps.

I think I’m a pretty interesting person despite my horrible math grade LOL!
Lbr218, we all really want to go to brown and Im sure you’ve worked hard all ur hs years. Lets just hope for the best.
