So I have sent my tax transcript from 2015 to BC 2 times, but the requirement has still been on my portal since they received it a few days ago. I called today and was now told that they need an actual copy of my 2015 Student Tax Return from the IRS. The tax transcript has served me fine at every school except BC.
Now that I have to request/pay for the tax return copy from the IRS, it can take up to 60 days to get it back in the mail. May 1st is much closer and I need to know my financial information before then. Will BC come up with a package for me before they get my tax return? It offers nothing profound that would change my financial aid (I made 1000 on a part time job in 2015)
It is really important that I get some kind of package before I commit anywhere. This financial process with BC has been such a struggle and I’m nervous its too late to get any package before May 1st
We ran into that requirement with my nephew; in fact most schools to which he applied said he needed the actual tax return vs the tax transcript. I would call the school and explain the situation and ask if they can provide you with a number contingent upon receiving the tax return. It took about a month and a half for my nephew receive the tax return from the IRS.
I’m in a similar boat. Except I don’t have either, I’m a non-filing applicant and I have to submit papers proving that! I had everything in for a couple of weeks now and still have not heard anything about my award summary…I even emailed the women in charge of me specifically and she won’t be back till the 10th. So I won’t know till later in the month if I need anything else!
I had my non-refundable $500 fee wavered because I’m so high needs. I called and asked if I were to accept their offer right now but withdraw it later after I get my financial award (assuming it’s not enough) would I have to pay the $500. They told me of course not if it’s because of finanical reasons. In addition, I would definitely find out in April how much I’m getting so that way I have enough time to withdraw and accept another offer.
So my advice - Call them! They are a lot more understanding than you think. Explain to them your predicament and if you can speak to the person in charge of your application they can make an appeal to whoever it is and have them continue without the copy. And offer it to you contigent on being able to withdraw their financial aid once they receive the copy if the information does not add up to your transcript.
Or maybe, you should contact the IRS and have them fax over something that says it’s being processed as of “date” so that you can send it to BC. I requested non filing papers from the IRS and that will take about 5-10 days and I don’t have time to wait, so I was able to get a letter from the IRS immediately faxed stating it is in process but can verify that I (my family) did not file in 2015 or 2016. I’m sending this over right now I’m hopes it’ll satisfy them.
Best of luck!
Also I doubt the 1k will effect your financial aid award tbh. It’s not much and I don’t think it even covers books.
