i took the SATs last may and got 2170 (math 800, reading 660, writing 710). i took them again this past month in the hopes that i'd score higher.. but i just got my scores back and i scored 160 POINTS LOWER for a total of 2010 (math 670, reading 680, writing 660). and on top of that, i took advantage of college board's free score sending thing, so i've already sent all my scores to the schools i'm applying to. i did, however, score 20 points higher in reading, which was the only score that i really wanted to improve. but that's like nothing compared to my 130 point decrease in math and 50 point decrease in writing. i'm like freaking out right now so can someone tell me... will my drop in SAT scores really hurt me?!

Apparently most colleges “superscore” and only count top scores from each section.

The same thing happened to me, except I didn’t send my score to anywhere I care about. I bet you’ll be just fine.

Good Luck!!!

thanks OHKID!

but the thing is… even though most colleges do superscore, some of those schools still look at all scores to get a “deeper insight” of the student. i’m afraid that they’ll look at my scores and think that i didn’t try and that i don’t really care or that maybe i just got lucky the first time around. idk… maybe that might sound a little ridiculous but i’m just really worried…

Same thing happened to me – I had food poisoning the night before my second SAT (took it 3 times) –> my SAT score ended up dropping… 110 points (I was nauseous the entire time between breaks and passed out during 2 sections, CR and math). Fun times…

I crossing my fingers that colleges will understand that people have bad days, but we’ll see…

Just don’t send that score. You do have score choice you know.

that’s what i’m hoping, eagles17… i’m sorry to hear you were so sick ):

and shaheiruddin, i already sent all my scores to the schools i’m applying to. like i said in my first post, i used the free waivers for sending scores that collegeboard offers when you sign up to take the SATs. but even if i hadn’t done that, i still would’ve had to send all my scores because most of my schools require that you do so.
