HELP! My transfer as a second semester freshmen!

Hi! Im an incoming freshmen at a college, but I wanted to go elsewhere, which I hope to second semester! I called admissions and they said second semester freshmen are allowed.

But I have no idea how to do so! Do I make a new account on common app? Use the old one? Do I rewrite my old supplements? Retake my SAT, even though I got close to a 2000? I'm lost. Any tips/advice/help?

While some schools ALLOW 2nd semester transfers, they prefer sophomore or even junior transfers. That being said, I suggest you apply during your second semester (or the end of your first semester) to be considered for fall 2014. This gives you time to build a resume in a sense. You join clubs, take opportunities, enter contests, win awards, and really show you can succeed in a college environment. Try to keep your GPA as close to a 4.0 as possible and write thoughtful essays. You don’t have to retake the SAT. In fact, they may keep the scores on file from this year if you applied. Contact the school to which you are applying and see if this is the case. You WILL have to apply again… With a new common app account because you’re a transfer applicant instead of a first year applicant. I suggest searching for which classes are transferable before registering as many schools will have a guide to what transfers in. Doing this should help with admissions and avoid wasted credit at your new school should you be accepted. Best of luck!

Also, don’t use your old supplement essays! Why would you? They didn’t work the first time you applied. Write the essays as a college student; they don’t want recycled applications. Even so, you’ll have new essays… Including one stating why you want to transfer. It’s a lot of work, but completely worth going to your dream school! :)

I think spring transfer at most schools is very competitive. You would have a much better chance if applied for fall 2014 like avita said.

You just have to make a new common app account for transfer and write new essays. The common app essay is why you want to transfer and the supplement varies depending on the school. If you are applying to only school like I am, then you can just talk about that school in the general essay.

I also wondered if I should retake standardized tests and I was told that its not necessary as long as your score isn’t really low. College work is more important.

Thank you both so much! It really helped :)
