I NEED INFO PLZ POST

Doesn't look like it's a great match.

You need to give us more info PLZ.

From what I see right now, the Stanford admissions committe will be thinking "gee, another sterotypical asian"

It looks like you've done everything you can do (2380 SAT, 4.0 GPA in toughest courses). Just write some nice essays, even if you dont you still have a great shot. I'd say you're in for sure but ive seen people with the same stats get rejected from top schools. Lifes a crapshoot.

Agree with above posts
however, would the fact that he is asian hurt him at stanford?

Geez, another one of you.

I'm not an adcom, but I'm beginning to see the problem faced by adcoms with Asian students. I'm tired of reading the all-too-numerous posts with these stats and little variation - and I'm Asian!

But go on, like all the others, and try, because it really is just a crapshoot, albeit with somewhat fixed dice.

BTW, steve22, stealin' my catchphrase! :D

Well do you have any major hooks? State semifinalist really don't count as a great hook.

This is exactly the type of post I was hoping to identify in order to make my point. I discovered this site a few weeks ago, when my acquaintance--quite obsessed with getting into Stanford--mentioned that 17 and 18 year olds were spending their time critiquing OTHER people's chances of getting into a college, when they themselves were never on an admissions committee. I will tell you now that the chances threads on this site are complete B.S. This was an experiment to see how reliable the way people report stats is on this site. Predictably, posting your chances on this site does NOTHING for you. You cannot possibly hope to predict someone's chances.

As living proof, I got into Stanford even before posting this, (EA--found out on the 15th). I didn't have any major "hooks", just great grades, solid scores and essays, passionate extracurriculars, spirituality, etc. Please don't advise people on "hooks" or that they have to cure cancer to get into college. They have to be honest and true to themselves. THat is the only the thing that counts.

First of all, your experiment is flawed at best.

People are free to post whatever they want, and all posters have to excercise a lot of judgement when deciding what kind of advice is good advice. While it's true that college admissions committees are not going to be looking at every chances thread here, it's also true that people here sincerely try to help and give you their opinion. Consequently, there is never a 100% guarantee of admissions into a college when posting your chances. The only way to find out is by actually submitting the application.

I have not seen one person post that you must find the cure for cancer to get into any good schools here, so I don't know what you're talking about when you made that statement. The idea is that ECs are becoming very important to the admissions committees at top schools. Lame attempts to do ECs seem just like lame attempts to get into colleges to the committe members.

Your experiment is flawed, as you're reading the results of admissions committees when you're actually testing how people on the board feel about your chances. There are TONS of people on this board, how can you control which ones will give you accurate chances? You didn't even compare the same results. Adcoms get all this information about everything you've done for the past 4 years but your post basically 14 lines, without letting us know how your essays are, what kind of involvement you had etc. If you had applied to Stanford with ONLY those 14 lines of information, you wouldn't have even made it past the first round.

PLEASE get a better idea of how to conduct scientific experiments, or at least have some ounce of respect for all the hard working people who honestly try to help the kids here.

From what I see right now, the Stanford admissions committe will be thinking "gee, another sterotypical asian"

Good thing they don't say that to whites! And other races are "different" when it comes to apps? Puhleaze, everyone applicant here seems the same, just the Asian part leads to the typical response. 20 bucks says if the OP was white, you would have said he was an outstanding applicant just in terms of stats.

Congratuf*&^inglations! You are an amazing person and proved an amazing point. Now go back to watching your internet porn and sniffing women's underwear.

I would have said:

Great grades, but your chances are iffy because I don't see any significant ECs. Give me more info.

Of course, that would only have happened if he hadn't posted:
