Help! Need dorm laundry suggestions...

I know it's a weird subject but... :-)

Bought freshman D one of those pop-up mesh laundry hamper things for her dorm room. She assured me that she needed nothing different/additional, that she would tote this thing (it has a shoulder handle) to and from the laundry room, which happens to be situated in another building that is in a location central to this particular set of dorms. Well, that toting concept has gotten old (I told her from the start that she should consider something with wheels), and the hamper needs to be replaced because of all the dragging. Does anyone have any suggestions for a good laundry hamper/tote? Thanks in advance.

Tried and true old ladies shopping cart.....rolls, folds, handle works just fine.

Google rolling shopping cart and read/order there are many brands.

Hazmat, your idea never crossed my mind! I wonder where one would find one of those? Maybe Wal-Mart?

Well you can look at your local hardware store.........or as I said you can also do the stores for storage kinda thing.....they work well for lots of stuff.

gym, I have one sort of like that from Linen's and Things

It is a pop up hamper, it also has a shoulder strap, but lastly it has wheels :)
It's the one I use and it is a very good hamper :)

why not just have her send her laundry out to get done? they usually charge something like 30 cents a pound, and as long as you don't send towels, (which, finding out the hard way, weigh a ton apparantly) it costs all of like $10 more a month to do. That way all she has to do is wash her towels...and in the long run, if you have 3 towels...what does that make? 1 load of laundry a month?

I'm sure she'll cope with carrying a few towels back and forth.

Plus sending your cloths out to get done is great because you get them back the next day in these little like shrink wrapped packages all nice and folded. I'd never go back to doing it myself haha. It's like getting new cloths every load of laundry!

hopkinslax: The one you suggested is exactly like the one she had -- sans the wheels (which is the part she really needs)! Thanks for your suggestion.

jags86: That kid of mine is spoiled enough as is. Doing a little laundry never hurt anyone. :-)

Further laundry question: can kids in a dorm hang anything up to dry or must everything be destined for the dryer?

jags86: not all schools have that option available (either though the school, or in the surrounding area)

OP: I saw some pretty good ones at target when I was doing my shopping first year (so about 1.5 years ago). either that or bed bath and beyond ought to have something that'll hold up pretty well

pyewacket- you might want to get a foldable towel rack.

I was just talking about taking it to a laundromat, which I'm confident that 99% of schools have one near by. Every laundromat offers to wash your cloths for ya, if you're willing to pay :)

our laundromat is about....probably a mile and a half off campus, which unless you have a car, might as well do it yourself (as there is laundry in almost every dorm, or at least in the basement of the connecting dorms)
