Help! Need extra letter of recommendation, but no form on CommonApp

I went to do reserach with a college professor over the past summer, and I'm sure he'd write me a nice letter of recommendation. However, on CommonApp I don't see anywhere to add an additional letter. Do I just sent it in to the school by physical mail without indicating it on my application, or is there something I'm missing? Thanks!

If it's a letter of reference or a non-academic recommendation, you don't have to use a common app or university form for it. My school sent mine with my transcript, but you could also just give the professor a stamped and addressed envelope and ask him to send the letter.

Do you think it's a bad idea to send an extra letter without the school saying you're allowed to?

At my summer program they invited the student affairs vice chancellor to speak with us and he said it might be a bad idea to send more letters than they ask for. Anyone else have opinions on this?

Ask the prof to write your full name and perhaps your birthdate on it, to make it easier for the admissions office to match it up with your file.

Some schools specifically discourage the submission of supplemental materials (i.e. Stanford) Be sure to check the websites of each school you are applying to.

My D also did research, and this was an important part of her application.
Her research director offered to write a rec. My D supplied her with the stamped addressed envelopes as well as the common app # or the ID # of a couple of schools that did not use common app. The # (and student name, birth date as mentioned above) was included at the top of the letter as well as name and ID # on the front of the envelopes. Her director sent the letters herself, without my D having seen them.

For those schools which allowed supp material and whose applications provided a box indicating "research supp material to be sent" (or something to that effect similar to portfolios etc), my D also sent a reduced copy of her research presentation poster, folded so as to be 8 1/2" x 11. In cases where this was forwarded, the director rec (sealed) was enclosed in the same large envelope.

Thanks for all of the feedback. I think I'll probably do the same and submit my rec and research paper in the same package.
