Hi, I presently live in Montreal, I am a french-canadian. I recently went to NYC and fell in love with it and I can't stop thinking about going study there. I have juste finished high school and now going to cegep (community college) in communications. I haven't done the SAT yet, since we don't have to do it, but I already registered. Also, I am not the one who had the best grades in high school, will they look at this or just my cegep grades? If I can get into NYU, it would the best thing in the world, but I would also like Baruch. Probably in business or something related.
Do I have a chance?

Can you family afford the 50K+/year to attend NYU?

Not really, but I am sure there is someways I could do to pay it off.

NYU is notoriously stingy in giving financial aid, even to American students. If your grades are “not the best”, you may not qualify for merit aid at most schools.

NYU bases its admissions (atleast for OOS) on grades. If you don’t have the best of grades, I’m afraid I’ll have to agree with tomofboston. Merit awards are hard to come by…and you need to really be realistic. Have you visited other us cities, where the education could be more affordable but some of scene you fell in love with remain intact within that place? I know that I was pretty unrealistic when my college app time came and when I actually did get into top schools…the issue came out to be money. Word of advice: seek a safety. I don’t mean a safety in terms of admissions, but rather a school where you can get admissions and even qualify for great aid. Don’t hallucinate over a one time visit. Think thoroughly about the advantages and disadvantages. Otherwise, great education can be found anywhere. You just need to be smart about it and start early ;)

I am planning on getting the best grades I can get in college, if I happen to get the b est grades, will that be ok?

Thank you liveulife, I’ll get the best grades I can get in college and I think Baruch would be better for my finances.

Columbia has much better aid.

^itsinreach…why did you mention columbia? when columbia is even harder than hard to get in than nyu.
Bea, you should do baruch or any other uni that you can afford. If you do extremely well in ug, then attending grad school in u.s. will be an easier admissions. You can still apply to nyu for undergrad, but just be aware that nothing can be promised.
NYU will look at your senior grades and community college grades. If you’ve done your best in the cegep, then I would say go for applying because that will weigh out your hs performance.
