HELP Need study materials/resources

I will be taking the ACT soon [edited out]. Also, any books that u guys would recommend that truly help and follow the same format as the actual ACT test? I am aiming for a near perfect/perfect score here

This is a lot, but some of them are short. And you say perfect so I’m going to throw them all at you. Every single one of these books I know from experience are great. I recommend them for a reason.

The ACT Black Book. This one is essential.*** A must-read!!! It will get your confidence up and your understanding of the test will dramatically change. This goes along with the ACT company’s Red Book…The Real Guide to the ACT which is 5 practice tests from the makers.

For English: Erica L. Meltzer’s The Complete Guide to ACT English. I like how it breaks down different question types: you want to have this type of understanding for all sections actually! Very thorough.

For Math: A lot of people will recommend The Ultimate Guide to ACT Math by Richard F. Korn…it repeats a lot of material that’s seen in other books. For math, you either know your stuff of you don’t. Learn it somehow-- maybe from this book. You may already be good at it. Still, the more the better. Beware there are typos though.

Reading: The author of the English book also has one for reading. This is the only one I am yet to read. I’m assuming it breaks down different question types which is good. I’ll let you know about this one.

Science: For the Love of ACT Science. A must get!!! Breaks down the section extremely well. Explains all the different locators and places to look along with the different types of questions.

Also, people will say ACT 36…it’s not bad. The content for English and Math is good review, but the R and S especially, in my opinion, isn’t very necessary.

Get the Black Book (best strategies and insight!!), The Real Guide (ACT company’s practice tests), Erica Meltzer’s book, do something for math, and definiely Michael Cerro’s For the Love of ACT Science.

As a tutor and college coach, I absolutely recommend the real ACT guide for practice tests. It has 5 official ACT Tests, and it’s always good to make sure you’re using the most official material out there. That way, on test day, you’ll have a very good idea of what to expect. Timed practice tests are important, but you also need to fit strategies in your prep. I can’t stress this enough!

I recommend a book called “I Used to Hate the ACT, Too”. It offers the most common strategies you’ll see on the test and it’s broken down by section. For each strategy, it includes examples of where it appears in the Real ACT Guide practice tests.

Good luck!

@StudiousRob and @testpreplive thx very much for the advice, I will look into all of these resources and let u know of any questions. Thanks very much again

Out of curiosity, I checked out that book “I Used to Hate the ACT, Too” on Amazon.com, and did find some curious things about it.
There are 31 reviews altogether: twenty five 5-star and six 4-star ones. Looks really good.
Until you start looking at the dates of those reviews.

The last three reviews’ dates are January 12, 2016, September 22, 2015, and June 15, 2015.
The rest are: thirteen of June 10’s, eleven of June 9’s, and four of June 8’s.
The book’s publication date is May 8, 2015.
Amazon, apparently, is not doing too good of a job screening out phony reviews.

The moral of the story: don’t buy an abundance of glowing reviews on Amazon (and elsewhere) for a sign of quality.

^Very good investigative research! Pretty funny!

If one is going to promote a book on CC, at least indicate that it’s your own book.
