I got a message on my home phone from a harvard interviewer...I called her back on her number and she didnt pick up so im guessing that was her work phone

isn't it too late for interviews to be considered? decisions are coming out NEXT WEEK

Hey, I had a similar thing. I am international (south African) and got my first interview a week ago. Tell me your situation and I will try help as much as I can. See if you are going to be asked similar things to what I was.

yikes! similar thing happened to me, but it wasn’t quite so late…it was like 2? weeks ago. figure it as a good thing! the way i see it, the ad committee just needs this one last factor, so you’re probably right on the edge! knock the interview out of the park. GOOD LUCK!

Agree with ^. Also, think of it this way: You are not rejected and it is 7 days ot decisions. Most people already have their e-mail ready to be sent with rejection and some with acceptance. You are certainly not at 7% chance anymore. Far higher I am sure of it. Good luck

This sounds interesting… relax man/woman, they are not going to ‘grill’ you. they are nice people. I see that you are American? Is this your second or first interview? I agree with theskylitup that it is not gonna be about stats etc. They will ask specific questions about stuff in your app that they didn’t understand completely. EG, I had an explaination of why I didn’t have a job (for various reasons I felt it was unethical here) and they asked about my opinions and where they came from. they also asked about some events in my life that I had expressed in my essay as having a profound influence on me.

These are the sort of things that they will ask. not ‘grill’ It is nice, gives you an opportunity to explain properly. But, definitely read through your essays, and supp for Harvard. Make sure that you know what you said. Otherwise, it is a very good sign. They will let you ask about harvard, so show interest the fact that they are taking the time now to talk to you means (imo) that you have a decent shot.

Good luck, relax, and just show them how awesome you are!

EDIT: Sorry, just read that this is your first interview. Probably very similar to ours then, so in all likelyhood will be what I have said. Probably. btw, mine was by an: Admissions Officer, Harvard College, Office of Admissions and Financial Aid. So, think yours in probably by someone similar.

do you think they would ask me specific questions about my app?

EDIT: I just saw your post lol
Wow I had no idea they would ask me about things in my app…I’m getting nervous
Thanks for all the advice! I’ll try my best to prepare

Yeah, think that is what this is for; specific questions about your app. Unless theskylitup can think of any other possibilities, it will probably be about that, at least it was for me.

Just curious, but why did you not have an interview earlier? as an american? just read through, do not stress.

I don’t know about Harvard, but I know a student who has a likely letter from Princeton (recruited athlete and national merit finalist) and was called for an interview well after receiving the interview request. It seemed more like a formality and a way for the student to ask questions. I think it is a very positive sign.

That’s really interesting. All my other interviews have been so general. now I have to practice something much more personal lol

and idk why I didn’t get an interview. I live in a highly populated area. (yes I’m american) I was kind of discouraged at not having gotten one.

wow I hope that’s the case for me (even though it’s probably not)
my greatest wish would be for the interviewer to come up to me and say, you’ve been accepted! any questions? haha I can dream

^ Haha thanks for your support, and best of luck to you too! keep me posted on what happens maybe future generations can look at our admissions decision to see if we were right about the late interview

Possibly something to do with the Harvard Club of your local area. For example, my second interview was conducted by the head of the alumni network in my area and she represented the “Schools and Scholarships” section the Harvard Club (in my area).

That could be it, but it essentially amounts to your interviewer being a representative of Harvard.

I doubt that.

Like idiosyncra3y said, they are very nice about it and its not an inquisitorial, interrogative situation at all. I feel that Harvard is a very “thorough” university and tries not to leave its admissions decisions to chance. If they see you as a quality applicant (which they must since they’re considering your file so close to the end), then they will do their utmost to be fair to you in allowing you to represent yourself as fully as possible - hence, giving you a late, or even second interview to clarify on an aspect of your application, so as to enable the committee to gain the fullest understanding of your file that they can.
