Oh! same here. I am very sensitive about my daughter and my in-laws reading my writing! I am thinking about not telling them, Also sensitive about my colleagues!

How can I get any publicity if I am having this kind of reservation?
I am also concerned that people might think it is biographical information. But I don`t want to change my style. I think romance, comedy, and witty dialogues between lovers are my forte!

I think I am quite bold for a female of Indian origin! I am extremely happy about how my first book of the trilogy has turned out. I had no clue that I could improve so rapidly and it is so joyful to write and create a fictional world where I had total control!
That`s why I am trying my best to get it out to the readers. I have gotten good feedback from a small subset of people.

Thanks for posting your opinion. Yes, I am working on getting an editor. If I cant I will go ahead and proofread it a couple of times and get it out there! I am already working on my second book. The whole series just came to me very easily. My English writing too has improved significantly since my first chapter. Thanks for sharing your friends success story!
I, too, have a friend (she is in my writing group) who is publishing her work with She Writes Press. Sheās had a good experience, but itās been more costly than she expected. So far, sheās spent about $7K.

You definitely donāt have to spend big bucks to get a book published. Itās all about how much help you want along the way in terms of cover design, editing, promotion, etc. The writersā group you have joined will probably share lots of great info on the various options you can pursue at a range of prices/services.

I would reiterate finding a writers group and an editor. Even if you find a college student or a teacher at your kidās school that wants to make some extra cash, but would be less costly than a professional editor. Sending your book out unedited, especially if you have concerns about run-on sentences and other issues would make it less likely to be successful. If your goal is to find an audience for your book and sequels, having the first one as polished and readable as possible is critical.

Amazon is still printing my book nearly ten years after I sent it to them. The author keeps about half of the revenue. (or at least I do)
Iām not familiar with the world of editing. Iām assuming it would be fairly inexpensive to get somebody to read the book and highlight the run-on sentences. (Though maybe some of them could stay, just for style of the book?). More if they draft a re-write of those sentences. Butā¦ based on reading author acknowledgements, even experienced writers benefit from editorial input on plot line etc.
To clarify, there is editing and then there is editing. Yes a good college student or writer friend can proofread for typos and run on sentences.
Book editing involves so much more. Is the voice consistent? Would it be better told in first person or third person? Does this chapter serve a purpose or does it drag things along?
Even best selling authors go through this process. Any moderately successful book youāve read on the market has been edited this way. Itās part of the business.
Amazon self pub has implied that anyone can be an author. Anyone can publish a book but that doesnāt mean they SHOULD publish a book.
Sorry to be so negative but the quality of self pub stuff Iāve seen is abysmal for the most part. If you want more than your friends to be interested, try to put out a quality product.
I have asked couple of people from my kids school. They were too busy. I agree a good editor who can identify with your thoughts would be so good!
But I usually struggle with finding people who can understand my thoughts!

However I made my realtor whom i have known for 11 yrs and she read couple of chapters and has liked it. Also couple of friends from my very limited circle.
I am using grammarly premium version and fixing my run on sentences. Itās looking good so far.
I am waiting to attend the Writers group this Dec 20th.

Well I am loving reading it again and again! Itās so hard to believe how everything is making sense now! Though I had no clue what was going to happen to lot of my characters when I just started back in 2020.
I keep improving my characters and their lives so much now ,I am just happy having an outlet for my creativity!

Itās been so long, Iāve forgotten how to do it. If memory serves, my author friend helped me with the publishing in exchange for work I did editing his novels.

Well I had approached a someone with writing experience and had sent him my first chapter with plot summary and all. He says it is complex and deserve to be published ,but he is too busy. So I am going to read and polish it myself.
