Help needed from you smart people! My ACT score makes me feel depressed! :(

So I took the December ACT and was expecting the score to be around a 28 to 29. But the composite score came out to be a 26! I knew the reason why it was that low was probably because I ran out of time for both the reading and science sections and did not even get to finish the last passage. But the weird thing is I feel so confident about my math section score that I thought it would be around a 33 and I was expecting my English section score to be around a 29, the math section came out to be a 30 and the English section came out to be a 27! It is heartbreaking to see this score, and it really makes me feel like a loser :frowning:

I know I should have done more practice tests because I spent most of the time reading the strategies from the black book without putting them to practice. I will definitely have to take the test again in April ( I was thinking of taking it in February, but my target score is a 32. It would be impossible to raise 6 points in just a month). I don’t really have a clear plan of what I should do next except that I should order my test questions and answers to see what is wrong and stare at a wall and contemplate my mistakes. Should I continue to stick to the red and black book and get more practice tests done? What should my plan be? I don’t know…

I will use my tears to bump this thread! :((

No need to bump, it’s 2:31 AM on the East Coast of the U.S. and the boards are likely to be slow no matter how much you bump.

@bodangles Sorry about that. Like your dog by the way!

No worries, just letting you know :stuck_out_tongue: Good luck on the ACT! Was your practicing timed? I didn’t take the ACT but have heard time management is a common issue.

And thanks, she’s my favorite dog at the shelter where I volunteer. :o3

Yeah, but I was in my best state when I took the practice, though.

How can we help you?

@bjkmom I want to know whether it is possible to raise a score by that many points in such a short period of time and what kind of a plan I should have.

I think it depends on why your score was so much lower than you expected.

You say you ran out of time for both reading and science and didn’t even finish the last passage.

That seems to be your battle plan- to work on picking up speed without losing accuracy.

As to what’s possible, I don’t think that’s an answer anyone else can determine for you.

@bjkmom I’ll do as much practice as possible ove the next few weeks to raise my score. I saw my PSAT score yesterday, and I got a 1350. This is not too bad compared to my ACT score, so I still have the potential to do well I think.
