I am an international applicant for the ugrad courses at the US universities, and am quite unclear about the process. Ive completed my final year and wasnt able to apply the previous year because of some problem at home.
Anyhow at this juncture I need to apply for the September 07 class, admissions for which shall begin in sept. this year. With a time span of 4 months left( 4mnths coz Ive my exams until 30th April ). Now with the testing requirement page mentioning that I need two SAT II subject scores, I was perplexed because every blog, every thread that Ive seen here talks of people giving three SAT II subject tests:
1> Can we give only two SAT II subject tests ?

I intended to write math level 2 and chemistry if its three tests which shud be third one?

Ive to write either TOEFL or SAT I,
2> Which one shud I prefer or rather write both of them?

3> thirdly could anyone plz help me decide how to go about these tests i.e. which one shud I give first and when, keeping in mind that I can only start as early as MAY 01 and need to apply to the admsn process starting in sept this year itself

Ill be highly obliged if any one could help me out ..plz be swift

You will need to write the SAT I, also called the SAT. With few exceptions, student applying to an American university, regardless of citizenship, will have to write either the SAT, or the ACT (American College Test); the SAT seems to be more common.

The TOEFL is written if your first language is not English (there may be exceptions; I'm not very familiar with the TOEFL)

Do the universities you plan on applying to require two SAT IIs, or three? I think most will only need two, although it may vary.

thank you cdn_dancer i am an applicant frm INDIA and so i might be required to write the TOEFL as well.
Wa'bt you are you an undergrad applicant as well

dude u don need 3 sat 2 subs to get into a good uni!!! i sat fr math2 n phy in the middle of my midterms n did fine..trust me its nuthin...not if u have alevels n stuff in ur resume..u need to relax a little n read a lotta websites with college advice n stuff...n start choosing unis...don juss do them by rank..look them up n c how muuch aid they offr to intels thats the big one...

SATs are pretty easy, just get the official Collegeboard books and do ALL the tests. Get started on getting your recs and school records immediately, cuz later teachers will be under pressure and might be hard to find( and touchy).

Also, Im not sure about this, but try writing essays of previous years apps, cuz it will help you introspect and make the actual thing easier.

aiyo guys
thanx i wasn't expecting replies this soon.
anyways Is anyone out there who has given or is preparing to give SAT II - math IIc and chemistry exam? Can you please help me with the detailed syllabus of the two and which books to refer for the preparation of both these subject exams

Another query : I am an international ugrad applicant and feel like taking up Computer science at the ugrad level so should I also write the physics exam [sat II] or will chem do the job

hey 'i'll-be back' budd thankx a real lot for ur concern, i am in jalandhar[punjab] these days.....dad has been posted there.

no need to take physics for computer science as long as you take some other science(bio, chem). I should have a syllabus for math IIC here but i can't find it. You can check theory and problems for sats at www.sparknotes.com. Most of the content is free. PM me if you have any questions.

hey dude buy priceton sat2 math, n kaplan sat 2 math..also kaplan phy..its relly ggood...kaplan shud b ur guide book..then practice from othder books like princetin n barrons..barrons too irritatin...too much info

ahaha, I doubt you'll get PR, Kaplan etc. in Jalandhar. But they'll be there in delhi for sure. The best book for SAT 2's is Barrons in my opinion. It's tougher than the real thing but prepares you better.
Also SAT 2 Chem doesn't make sense for comp Science, do Physics.

Physics SAT 2 is really simple. Its purely theory and theoretical applications- no numericals. For both Maths 2c and Physics, I went through my entire 12th portion in two months. :) But my board exams were still crappy.

In Maths 2c be sure to pay extra attention to graphs, because the Indian system doesn't cover that very well.

Also for preparing SAT reasoning, get the official collegeboard book and do the tests. I personally believe that your performance in the SAT1 depends on the state of your English, since Maths is usually easy for Indians. Get above 670 in the Critical Reading section, and you dont have to give the TOEFL for most colleges.
