I am just came from India to USA along with my family. Now I am enrolled in my first semester at Tarrant County College. I am an above average student. I want to transfer to one of the top unis. I would like to know more about the transfer admission policies of Universities particularly UT Austin, Caltech, Gatech etc in terms of GPA and other xtra curriculars since all these are not explicitly stated in their respective websites.
Thanks in advance.

You need to make an appointment with the transfer counselors at your college. They will be able to tell you where students from TCC have successfully transferred in recent years. Find out if there are any guaranteed transfer or articulation agreements with any 4-year colleges or universities. If you have (or will have) Texas state residence, depending on your field of study, you may have an automatic transfer into one of the public universities if you complete two years at TCC first.

For most public universities, GPA is what will matter. Extra curriculars might help a bit at a private college/university.

For more ideas on this process, read through the long thread “Transfer Admissions 101” at the top of this forum. You will find a lot of good advice there.

Thanks for the reply. TCC has an articulation agreement with UT Arlington. But what if I get more ambitious to apply to unis like UT Austin, Caltech etc. I know the competition is not much harder than it is in our country. Anyway, it helped.

The transfer counselors can tell you if anyone has recently been admitted to any of the schools on your list. If no one has, see if you can find out if anyone applied there, and if so, what their coursework and grades were like at TCC. If you are the first applying to these colleges/universities, and your counselor has no experience with them, see if your counselor can put you in touch with a colleague at another community college who has experiences with these institutions.

Good luck!

yeah thnx. That was nice of you. Mybest regards
