I’m a student at a high school in New Jersey and my school doesn’t allow students to self-study AP exams. I asked my guidance counselor earlier in the year if she could redirect me to a testing center or order the materials and she said it was against policy. I proceeded to call AP services and got a list of coordinators but this is my problem: no nearby testing centers have the test I want to take (AP Economics).
Does anyone have any advice locating testing centers or what to do in this situation?
I’m not a big fan of self studying AP’s, but this is the biggest piece of horse hockey I’ve seen. Your school does not allow you to open an unapproved book on your own time? Because that’s basically what you are saying.
If your school is an AP test center, the school can order any exam, whether you took the class or not, or even if they do not offer the class. I’d get an outraged parent involved in this one. Good luck.
The guidance counselor was against this policy as well but since the principal approved this it she unfortunately couldn’t make any changes or allow exceptions.
Edit: I’ll try talking to her again but I highly doubt it would make a difference.
